it must be a damn good price, to alleviate all the potential headaches.. (just in case ;))

damn straight i'm gonna rag on the rentals, the rental prices are outrageous, esp when you rent em out of an airport.. makes your vacation a bit more fun :)

Are rental cars as bad as I've heard?
Well, all I can say is that I have a former Hertz rental car in my garage that is 37 years old and still runs and drives fine and I KNOW IT WAS BEAT ON BAD........it's a 1966 Hertz Shelby GT350 :D

Most rentals are maintaned better than your average car.

Many places sell previous rentals as "certified" cars. Under 30,000 miles with full warranty which you can extend.

I'm the same way, actually. Heck, I'd even marry a hooker if she's my type and likes me too.

I work for an auction. Probably 90% of the rentals go to an auction like mine when their time is up. We currently have literally thousands on property from all the major rental companies.

I've been working there for over 15yrs and can say that I've probably seen it all.

I'm not getting into specifics, but - I wouldn't buy one.

Maintainance is less of an issue than the abuse the car's taken. Oil changes every 4k miles won't make up for it being driven balls to the wall, which most rentals are. Even if only 1/3 of people drive rentals hard you've still got 1/3 with absolutely no respect for the longevity of the car. Although the car may stand up well over time regardless, you can't change the fact that you _know_ the powertrain of the car has been abused.

well, I decided not to go that route for now. We're still gonna look around at private party vehicles for sale but I may just give up and go to a dealer if I can't find anything in a reasonable amount of time
