So I saw an ad on Craigslist for an 18-spd Mountain Bike for $25, and decided to call the guy to check it out. He casually mentions that "he forgot to mention in the ad that the seat is missing", and suspicion arose. I did try to go check it out, but he had already sold it apparently.

Could there be a legitimate explanation as to why it was missing? The guy lived in the rather ghetto side of Oakland if that matters..

Seat theft is a big issue. I've had pretty much everything ripped off of my bike at one time or another. I had a Gary Fisher Wahoo!... and people ripped off my saddle, shifters, wheels, pretty much everything. One time some jackass actually stole my handlebars. That bike had quick release everything. I think the thieves enjoyed it even more than I did.

Yeah, I hate quick release. On my old Trek 800 I replaced the quick release seatbolt with a regular bolt. But my new Trek 4500 has these stupid rounded holes on the seatpost so I can't replace the quickrelease thing. :|
