My wife went to doctors and found out that she's allergic to dogs (we have 2), dust, dust mites, etc..

They recommend that we get de-humidifiers for our bedroom and finished basement.

Can anyone recommend good de-humidifiers? I would like to get one that is reliable and quiet..

price range is around $200 for each..

What's the good brand.. looks like there are lot of different brands..

Dehumidifiers have nothing to do with getting allergens out of the air. They just reduce humidity. Unless they have HEPA dehumidifiers or something... Probably much better to get an air purifier/filter type thing.

And if you have Central Air, that has dehumidifying built in...

I'd just head to Sears if you actually want a dehumidifier. That's where we got ours. Just have ratings on how much they take out of the air in ho wmuch time. THe bigger the better but probably not needed...

Is your basement moldy or something? Having the air too dry is equally bad for allergies as having it too humid, if not worse.

Running a de-humidifiers will prevent dust mites. They can't live at certain humidity level..

Yeah but if the air gets too dry then that causes other sinus/lung issues too. You should test your air humidity before getting one. If it's already around 40-60 there is no need for one and adding one will likely irritate her sinuses.

rip out all the carpeting in your house, and install hardwood flooring, and install a nice hepa filter for your central AC/heating, if you has one. get rid of the dogs or the wife, take your pick. ;)

Don't they make pills for that now?

My mom has a Hunter humidifier that she really liked. Not sure they take out of the air as well as they put in, though.
