Buy Wii or wait for Wii U?

kids have been bugging me for a Wii. i'd get it if i could find the Mario Kart bundle for under $150.

or hold off and get a Wii U end of year? i know if i get a Wii now, I'll still pick up a Wii U because i have no self control.

any good bundles out there?

The wii U looks underwhelming so far.

The wii is cheap. get it.

Also, I suspect that the wii might be better on a CRT screen than a digital screen.

I've been thinking about getting one, because Xenoblade Chronicles comes out in early April (supposed to be a good JRPG). However, it seems the newer Wii without Gamecube support is the most common one to find, and I would have considered it, but it's the exact same size as the older one.

If your kids are like mine they won't touch it. you can buy the same stuff or better on the HD consoles. My kids play Sonic Racing and they never touched the SD mess that was Mario Kart.

This.

We have all 3 consoles. The Wii gets the most playtime by my son and his friends by far. (He's almost 9.) The Wii is really cheap and there are a ton of games out used you can get for a song.

I'd get a refurb from Gamestop or similar that has GC compatibility because there are a lot of good GC titles out there if you can't find a bundle with it.

That's sad for your kids. HD doesn't make anything automatically a better game.

well, they absolutely love Mario Kart and Sonic All Star racing on the DS. I figure my kids would enjoy the Cooking Mama, SpongeBob, Barbie games. There's a ton of kids games on the Wii. Right now, they're stuck on Moshi Monsters and other online crap. They want a Wii really bad. I figure all four can play Mario Kart with four controllers.

Super Smash Bros and Super Mario Bros are also very popular in our home for groups of kids.

Disney All Star Party and Super Monkeyball Banana Blitz are fun for groups too.

btw, Cowboom has used Wii's for $65 in various conditions. Don't know if that's a good price but just passing on the info.

My kids still love the wii, Gonna pick up Mario Party 9 "for them" this weekend.

I hate it when their cousins come over and they play this one Wii Party game called "Hide the controller". I can't get no sleep on Saturday morning. Anyhow, the first party games for the Wii are really good. For single player experience, I would say that Metroid Prime 3 is as good if not better most Adventure games on the HD console.

I own all 3, and have a gaming pc as well.

Most if it is pure crap. You can play four player Sonic on the PS3. My kids also like Free Realms, a kids MMO which is free to play. My kids had a Wii for almost a year and I finally sold it since they never touched it, we had plenty of games too.

I'd just get the Wii if they really want that.

I'm thinking that after the WiiU hits that Wii's will come down to 99. It might be worth that for the virtual console.

Not everyone's kids like what your kids like.

here's what I'm wondering: what is the best CRT monitor to enjoy the wii with? the wii on a lcd just seems wrong...

Best crt display? Sony XBR960 running in 480p through component. Best monitor? Sonyfw900, also in 480p. LCD's will tend to suck as 480p content upscaled to 1080p looks like crap. The challenge with CRT's is they are becoming increasingly hard to find. You can't find new ones these days, they're virtually all used.

Just picked up a used one at EB. Was a good purchase, rather entertaining for the girlfriend and I. Wouldn't wait for the Wii U personally.

Why? 480p widescreen looks much better.

I'd wait for the Wii U if you're looking to buy at this point. It is backwards compatible with all the Wii games. It just doesn't have Gamecube support.

ah yes, forgot about that. what kind of warranty comes with a used system?

meh, looked at the used and they're $100. better off getting the $149 bundle from sam's club that comes with two games.

i used to see wii bundle deals all the time. now that i want one, nothing appears to be on sale. fffffffff

edit: found the black wii with super mario bros for $129 at target. guess i'll get this, mario kart, 3 extra remotes, and 4 wheels so that we can all play together

This same sentence can be used on Nintendo's last three home console releases going back to the N64:

If you enjoy first party Nintendo IPs, [insert console name here] is worth it.

That's pretty much it. Sure, there are some great second party and even a good third party thrown in from time to time, but at the end of the day, what really makes the Wii (and again, most modern Nintendo home consoles) "worth it", is the Nintendo stuff. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and other Nintendo exclusives like Donkey Kong Country.

Personally, while not being a "fanboy", I always enjoy a good Zelda or Mario title, of which the Wii has several that are worth it.

If those interest you or your kids, I'd say it's worth it.

Ya, most like crap that plays itself and requires no skill, i.e. Wii sports. I like to teach my kids that being good at something the first time is unlikely and skill require practice.
