Buy what first for wireless network?

So I'm finally at the point where I'm frustrated up with the slowness of my B network and wanna go to G.
I have two laptops running wirless and 3 PC's (2 wireless, 1 main connected to base station). All of these get files and internet shared between them. The problem however is dont have the cash right now to upgrade everything.
I'd kinda like to get a new router/base station first....what i have right now is the CompUSA $15 special...it works but not as well as i've scene others do out there. So would it be possible to buy a G router and still have it work on B freq. so all my comps could still access it? Or do you have to upgrade the cards and then the router/base station?

I equate the router you buy as the motherboard you buy for your pc.
If you buy a router, make sure it has all the features that are predicted to be a standard item in the future, and it offers all the options you need right now, and may in the future. Things like WAP, 802.1x, and the dlink plus line offers you the ability to double the bandwidth, from 54 to ~100. Yes, I know, WAP isn't all that secure and its very new, but if you go with a popular brand that does regular firmware upgrades, or that you can get mod'd firmware (linksys) you can do alot with it. Plus, when you do want to upgrade your wireless cards for your machines, they should be cheaper also.
Like buzzman said, most G routers will do B also, but some will restrict your entire network to B if there is even one card using B, so you may want to check into that too.
