I'd be interested to hear why you think a 19X12 gamer on a budget is better off with a >$500 4870X2 than the 4870, GTX260 OC, and 9800GX2 he could get for under $300 and have $200 left for the thing that means more to any college student on the planet than anything else:
Female college students.
Any of those three cards play 19X12 at very high levels, and if I'm this guy, I buy the 4870 or 260, pocket that $250+ and take favorite willing classmate on two romantic dinners and enjoy
sport that kicks the crap out of gaming after.
(love my gaming, but anyone tries to tell me I need a better video card more than seeing strangers nekkid, we'll be playing Ro Sham Bo with me going first)

Plenty of time after college to buy $500 video cards, when the money doesn't have to come from birthdays and student loans. Take your girlfriend out for a nice dinner that night instead.
