Buy Synthetic Oil?

I got my oil change and the guy recommended I get synthetic oil for $10 more since my car has a lot of mileage (Camry 04 with 95k miles). I declined, but is it worth it to get synthetic oil?

In my view, yes. I run it all my cars, put it in at the first oil change.
Not one bit of trouble and I think the motor lasts longer with it.
Castrol Syntec or Mobil 1 are the two best in my view.

Figured I'd throw out the obligitory "Amsoil is the best!" comment... though I use Mobil 1 religously in all my vehicles.

btw: Yes, it's worth the extra money.

Depends on your vehicle, and how often oil changes are. Also an oil analysis will truly tell you if it's worth it.

If you've been running dino all it's life be preparred for possible leaks.

For a street-driven, liquid-cooled, non-turbo car there is no practical benefit to running synthetic beyond an extended change interval. Regular old dino oil will provide perfectly acceptable lubrication for the life of your vehicle. Any decent dino oil should let your car run just fine for at least 300,000+ miles as long as you change it at the appropriate intervals and use a good filter. The rest of the car will fall apart long before any problems from conventional oil would appear.

If your car is air-cooled, turbocharged, or raced on a track, you may want to look into synthetic. But none of those apply to a Camry.

dude 95K miles, stick with dino.. forget synth.. it can melt through the gunk on your engine stuff, and you will find oil leaks.. screw that, on your new car, after first oil change move to synth..

I wouldnt at this stage.. but its upto you.

I run Mobil 1 and have for years. A few years ago though Mobil 1 changed from a full synthetic to a partial synthetic. I keep using it though.

It's hard to find any true Synthetic out there, or you pay through your ass for it. It's kind of like our food, if it contains less than a certian % they can say it doesn't have any.

Yea they are a Grp3 oil now. I buy the cheapest Syn oil that is on sale and run that.
