Buy or Build

I'm debating on weather to build or buy for a friend. I always build my own, but I'm seriously thinking about having him just buy. The budget is around $500 w/o monitor or around $700 with monitor. He is NOT computer savy, and lives a few hours away from me, so giving him any tech support is difficult/frustrating. Better some poor Indian kid than me I suppose! By the time I pay for the parts and an OS, it doesn't seem to be that much cheaper to build, especially on a low end PC. Where are the best places to get a decent low end PC? Am I nuts for buying vs. building?

That's easy: if you want to be lifetime support for your non-savvy friend, then build it for him.

Otherwise, have him buy a cheap Dell.

In this case buying a low end PC makes a lot of sense. You might look at Dell and Acer. I know they have improved but, I am still prejudiced against E-machines.
