In Canada, the bank cards can only be used at POS and ATM's. There used to be no Visa or Mastercard branded debit cards in Canada.

They say "used to be", but I've yet to see one.

No, if there's no "VISA" or "MASTERCARD" logo clearly printed on the front of the card, then no.
