No US proof coins are plated after striking. US cents are made of copper-plated zinc but the plating is done prior to striking.
Nothing particularly special about the 1975-D coins (they aren't proof, by the way - no proofs are manufactured at the Denver mint). The 1943 copper cent is indeed very valuable but also the most faked coin ever. People take a 1943 steel cent and plate it with copper hoping it will fool someone. Testing with a magnet foils that plan.
