"Step 3: Provide the dealer with your X-Plan PIN and your Social Security Number."

Give a car dealer my SS number? Ya, right. While I am at it, I will also give them the keys to the house and the days I will be on vacation.

Don't you normally have to give them your SSN anyway, for a credit check before they give you financing?

The deal applies to Canadians as well. Is this a one-time offer kind of thing?

I can't seem to enter my postal code (zip code equivalent for you Americans) at the FordDirect.com site to determine cost of any vehicle? Do all Ford Dealerships know about and honor the X-Plan? Is there a sign somewhere in the building to show that they support it?

Great post btw, in the process of deciding on a car, if we do pick a Ford, this may save us some much needed money. Thx :)

My company also participates in the X-Plan pricing with Ford (as well as, similar programs with Chrysler and Cheverolet).

My wife and I purchased a new Ford Sport Trac last September. Told them we were X-Planners, they gave us the X-Plan price and Manufacturer's rebate (1K, I think), but we balked. They came down another $200 of the X-Plan and we walked out with a fully load new vehicle for 4K less than the sticker (not including tax). I didn't have to produce my Pin nor my SS number. They did try to stick me with some lame insurance add-on, but I caught it in the Finance office and immediately had it removed.

It was easy and a great deal and would definitely do it again, especially as I am looking for a new custom hi-top conversion van (4 kids, I gotta have something big).

Hey DreDay (or anyone else), how did you get the X-Plan pricing for Mazda, Jag, Volvo, etc.? I didn't see any links on FordDirect.com, and there doesn't seem to be a MazdaDirect. :)

XPlan = Bogus

I bought a Ranger in Jan of 2001---my company gets XPlan pricing. I actually negotiated a better deal than I would have got from XPlan...At the time, I was within one year of college graduation, and they offered an additional $500---so, I negotiated a price that was actually well below NADA value (for a new pickup), THEN slapped them with the "oh by the way, I was reading on your web site that if you have graduated..." I was quite happy with the deal I got...ended up to be about 1500 or so below invoice...(however, it was also a 2000 when the 2001 were out)

This is great! I have a similar plan with our company for GM. (I can't share it though :( ). You haven't heard dealers moan until you pull out your paper and show them "your cost".

PS - I did not have any problem with my GM dealer getting my last car for GM employee cost + getting the 0.9% financing. The best part is that there is NO Haggling. You can get in & out of the dealership!

Here are links for current Ford incentives:

Um, newsflash... usually you give the dealer your SSN if you apply for financing through them. Hell, they probably require your SSN just to make sure you are who you say you are when you purchase the vehicle!

I got it from the X-Plan website. It's a members only website though, you need a code to access it.

just to clear things up...

Jaspina the correct site should be Ford Partners you need a company code to get in tho dunno about these ppl who got in through a club or what ever... with this plan you qualify for ANY car ford makes except, Aston Martins, and the Mazda Protege MP3(at least through my company (Pioneer) we dont qualify for the mp3 possibly because we didnt make an mp3 player when they started this model) the deal with the various companies is as follows

Ford and Lincoln 4% over Manufacturer cost

Mazda, i cant remember but it wasn't as good, but still below invoice.

Jag, Preferred Customer Pricing, when all is said and done negotiating with the dealer, then you get $500 - $1500 off the price Kinda lame I must say.

and Range Rover, 4% over DEALER INVOICE, what kinda deal is that!!!

Plus you get ANY deals that the manufacturer has going on at the time 0 down 0%, new car owner, 1500 cash back, anandtech effect, what ever...

which brings me to my next one

Spwango...

its not bogus, you could have gotten the x-plan pricing AND STILL GOTTEN THE NEW GRAD DEAL!!!!!

tell me you would have gotten a better deal negotiating that by yourself, and then I will still tell you that what you would have saved on your own would have to me been worth the hassle of dealing with the salespeople, I like the fact that I can go in and PISS off some sales guy be letting him know that hes spending his time with me for free...

Has anyone actually faxed in the sheet to Ford based on this thread? No offense intended Slickkster, I know you just picked this deal up somewhere else. I just have a little concern about faxing in my personal information to a number that I can't confirm is for FMC. This looks like a super deal, it just seems that the forms would be easy enough to alter and someone out there could be collecting a boatload of personal information. The One American Way address was easy enough to verify, but I hate to mail it because I doubt it would get processed in time. If you did fax it to the number on the .pdf in this post please respond with the outcome.

bowhuntr: I faxed in my info on June 16th or 17th. I haven't heard back from them yet, though. I tracked down the shareholder relations number, but they are closed for the day. I will give them a ring tomorrow. Here it is for anyone else that wants it: (800) 555-5259. They have people there 8:30-4:30 EST.

I just bought a ranger edge and from the xplan I would have saved about $200 if that, personally if you won't qualify for the plan or if you want to get in before the $2500 rebate expires I would go with carsdirect.com they are actually pretty cool about the whole and don't give you any "typical" salesman hassles. They'll give you a call and will keep looking for what you want until they find it or you meet somewhere in the middle (as far as options go) I liked the experience and for car's that are more common market (ie ford/dodge/chevy) I will probably continue to buy from carsdirect. My 2cents.

jaspina, let us know what you find out. I know FoMoCo has done this in the past (x plan F&F offer via shareholder packet), but would feel better knowing if it is legit :)

Great deal, but I would advise to use snail mail. Never fax your SSN, too many people have access to fax lines.

Glass etching is a scam many dealerships do.

Think about it...Your vin is stamped in many places on the car already. How is having it on your window going to matter any?

I agree. I would send it USPS priority with delivery confirmation, it's a whopping $3.90 or so but worth the peace of mind.

I'm not sure I understand the SSN security issues with faxing vs. mailing. How do you know who's looking at the mail vs. the fax (once it gets there)? Intercepting fax lines? I guess...but no more than any other thing. There certainly isn't much buzz about fax-hacking. Now, if your question was really implying that this is not really Ford you're faxing, relax. Call them and ask them yourself! I don't find it a plausible threat, but whatever makes you feel more comfortable. Keep in mind that your SSN is out there already, in every place you've ever gotten credit, or lots of other seemingly benign things, like applying to rent an apartment. Whatever...

As for the question about anyone using that number, yes, me! They emailed me my PIN immediately (the next day, that is). If you don't give a good email address, of course, you can't expect to get the PIN too quickly. I am the proud owner now of a Ford Escape XLT Sport edition that I just bought through X-Plan. Picked it up on Friday. Some pep, man! 200hp V6 in a relatively small package. Nice...

As for window etching and extended warranties and the like, look at Carinfo.com. You'll find companies there that will send you a window etching kit for $15 (that only requires a q-tip to put on). Another company will give it to you free if you buy one of their products.
Extended warranties, if you're interested, can be purchased by following the link for carinfo.com (like Warranty Direct, Warranty Gold, etc.) They are much cheaper than the manufacturer's extended warranties. FordDirect, as someone mentioned earlier, will give you a free quote for their extended warranty.
I found it to be about $600 more for the same or less coverage. These after-market companies will let you use any repair shop. Read the fine print, of course. Yes, I can hear the nervous nellies now..."but what if these aftermarket companies don't survive and go out of business?" Well, according to them, they're underwritten by "A"-rated-by-A.M.Best insurance companies who would pick up the coverage. So, again, whatever you're comfortable with.

Getting back to faxing for a moment...that site carinfo.com sells some kind of package about buying a new car that relies mostly on faxing. They tell you enough in the testimonials, basically, about how to do it. This, of course, applies to a regular sale, not a set-price like X-Plan is. The idea is to pick a car you like...list all the options. So easy to do now with so many car sites on the net listing options and prices, etc.

Fax your request for a quote on a new car to several dealers in your area. Be willing to drive a bit to get a better deal. Let them know that you are faxing other dealers as well. Be very specific about the exact car you want, with all the options. Tell them in the fax you want them to call you back immediately with a quote. Then, let them play against each other. When you get your quotes, call the one who gave you the HIGHEST bid and inform them they have to come way down in order to be in the game. Inform the other dealers of where they stand...see how low they will go. Of course, you want their return quote on paper, not some b.s. phone quote. So, when you find the quote you want, have them fax you all the details. Then, go make the deal. That's what I get out of the testimonials. Of course, you can always spend the $26 at carinfo and get all the details. Who knows, maybe I'm missing something. Get the picture? All this from your own home...no traveling to dealers...no haggling. Let the dealers bid against each other. Carinfo calls this a "Fax Attack".

:D Just to let you know, guys. I received my pin number today from Ford. Thanks, Slikkster. I faxed my application last week around tuesday or wednesday. Email had my pin number and a linked to Ford Direct with options to select local dealers or build your own car with options you choose.

A pop-up box comes on with more details on the plan and,I think, i read somewhere that this is good for six months.
