Buy.com's Free Delivery = Next Day Delivery (YMMV)

They scare you with the "14-21 days" when you order, but I've ordered twice from them, and got the free ground delivery, and both items were delivered the next day. It might be different for the people who aren't in the North Eastern US states, so YMMV. They try to get you to get 2-3 day shipping, or overnight by paying extra I think, with the 14-21 day tactic, eluding to the fact that they may take a lont time processing it or something.

Is it just because they shipped from a warehouse close to where you live? They have a lot of drop-shippers near me and I get those the next day even with UPS ground.

This is true with a lot of retailers, same with amazon. The way I see it, is they ship all the orders that actually do pay for ground shipping first, and then the free ones, if there's no ground orders to be shipped they're not going to hold it in their warehouse just to get you mad. As the number of people who actually like to pay for their shipping is relatively small, orders tend to be sent out pretty quicky.

I really doubt there's a conspiracy here. Besides, that's what tracking is for.

I don't know about a conspiracy, but they definitely try scare tactics in order for you to choose a non-free shipping method. By putting on there "14-21 days", they imply that it may take upto 3 weeks (or more since they could mean 14-21 working days). I almost opted for the 2-3 days shipping for an additional $10 or so, but then it might have taken even longer, because FedEx doesn't deliver before their "delivery date"...they let it sit in their warehouse for a day or two.

They wouldn't let it just sit in the warehouse and not process it because that would leave their workers with nothing to do costing them even more money.

bingo. more accurate would be 'they wouldn't just not submit the order to (IM/TD) and not have it shipped' (for buy.com, 4sure, etc.)

if you're lucky enough to be close to an Ingram Micro or Tech Data warehouse (not sure who Buy.com uses, maybe both?) you can get ground packages in a day... if not, then you won't.
