Thanks. Funny, but I've been looking for a deal on Viking CF too. Found this one last night at PCMall (the viking rebate on the viking site is good at authorized retailers, so buy.com, pcmall, amazon, etc. -- rebate page here)

$72.99 Price
(20.00) Rebate (from Viking's site - here)
----------
$52.99 AR

The catch with PCMall is that they have free shipping, but you have to get a rebate from UPS on the shipping (up to $40), and you have to select UPS ground when you check out. My shipping came out to be $10.83.

Anyway, just trying to help out!

Nice find! Viking is a good brand.

They've got 128mb cards too, for $39.99 - $10 rebate (for those of you that take fewer pictures :) ).

Nice! Maybe it's not too late to cancel the buy.com order? lol. Can you elaborate on the free shipping? Tks!

What do you mean you have to get a rebate from UPS on the shipping? You get rebate form on Viking website and you get rebate check from Viking.

Lamchop nailed it. I know rebates (or reimbursements) can be annoying to wait for, so it is important to point out the way pcmall works.

eCost just lowered their price to $69.99, and they have free ground shipping. However, I didn't see them listed on Viking's site as an "authorized retailer" so I would be worried that Viking might not honor the rebate.

sweet, got in on this deal :) with PC Mall. They are an authorized dealer I assumed?

Be careful whenever assuming someone is valid because:

Viking has specifically excluded PC Mall, Macmall, Ecost, Clubmac and wareforce!

Strangely enough, I happen to have a USB CF converter. Anotherwords you plug your CF memory module into this, and then plug it into a USB port. Apparently on XP it just shows up as a removable drive, tho you'd probably need to load drivers for 98. Too bad I got no CF modules, huh? :(

I am surprised...Viking has changed the rebate form on their site to exclude PCMall and a few others, as JFang pointed out. Luckily, I still have the .pdf file that I saved from their site from yesterday. The old version of the rebate form does not have the exclusions that the rebate form on the site has.

I have the older rebate also. Would they honor that?

WTF: it says right on the website that PC mall is authorized.

I have the old rebate, I guess I'll take a shot at it. I'll include the website printout that says PC mall is authorized.

What are other people's thoughts on this?

Is SimpleTech a good brand?

They have the 128MB CompactFlash for $33 after a $10 rebate. And it also qualifies for free shipping at buy.com.

buy.com also has the SimpleTech Keychain FlashLink CompactFlash Type I/II card Reader for $13.77. Also a good price? Maybe I should kill two birds with one stone.

Another thing to ponder:

The Simpletech 128mb CF is $144 at staples.

110% that to buy.com and you have the card for about $33 "out the door" so to speak.

I guess we will see on the Viking rebate. I have already ordered, so I'll let you know how the rebate process works.

Agent2099 -- regarding CF quality, I have referred to this digital film comparison. I personally have focused more on write speeds, for which the Viking, Simpletech (although they don't have the 128 or 256 reviewed) did pretty well. That, as well as advice from digital camera aficionados. I think you might be able to find even cheaper prices on 128 CF cards (try eCost...they have some great deals running for a little while). I have a 4MP camera and don't want to carry around a bunch of different CF cards (too easy to lose), which is why I would prefer a 256 or bigger card.

Good luck!
