Spectek is a Micron subsidiary, however the chips aren't as good as Crucial. Think about it as a "factory outlet" for Micron Ram.

There is a similar deal at Staples.com, PNY 256MB PC133(SKU#457395) $99.99 - $20 Coupon - $20 MIR = $59.99
and this is very likely to be Siemens Infineon CL3 memory chips which can do 166MHz @ CL3.

Do these work with older motherboards and chipsets? Or are these the newer "high density" stuff that only works with newer motherboards?

RossMAN, before saying that my post is a repost, it doesn't hurt to compare the date/time on my thread and on the other one.

You're right, sorry about that. I had ASSumed yours was the dup because the other guys had more posts. At least yours has a more descriptive title, my apologies for the goof-up.

I believe the chips are just as good as crucial if they are micron chips. Many of the companies all use the same chips. It is the board that they sit on that differ in quality. I could be wrong.

the crucial boards are likely better.

Go to pricewatch.com and search on PC133, the first 10 vendors or so all have PC133 memory that only works on AMD cpus (kt133 chip sets I think) 256 MB for $34 or so, shipping varies between $7 for stuff priced about $40 and $12 for the cheapest, so 1 stick shipped is about $45, two sticks about $80, 3 sticks $115 etc.

Months ago I bought 1 stick when it was like $68 shipped, and I will buy maybe two more sticks today unless I hear its really nasty etc. (this is for a 1.13 ghz Tbird on a KK266 motherboard).

For those of you who are wondering how this compares to Micron's ram, the spectek ram uses micron chips but I was told by a spectek rep that genuine micron ram is gardbanded for a wider range of uses. The spectek ram is made specifically for desktop PCs. Basically, spectek is micron's low-end ram.
