STAY AWAY FROM SONY PHONES, Speaking from experience. Sony makes great product but their phones are horrible, probably southwestern bell phones are better

I saw many refurbished Sony 900Mhz phones but a friend of mine own the
Sony spread spectrum 900Mhz and it works great.

(buy.com DOTD is not as good as when it started)

almost bought this phone a long time ago for a spare... but then I got a better deal on a Panasonic... :)

Panasonic is still the best for cordless phone IMHO

Can anyone comment on Bang&Olufsen cordless phone?

WOW! Five year old technology for $49... Maybe it's been longer than that.
I have to agree that the DOTD is no longer hot. Do people still sit up at night waiting for this thing? They used to put hot deals out there to draw people to the site. Now it's just a way for them to get rid of crap. Even after having five a day over the weekend, not one scorcher, maybe a couple of luke warm deals. I hope they're just trying to lull us into a sense of security.

Sony phones are bad? WTF are you people smoking? I have used cordless phones from Panasonic, Motorola, AT&T, Uniden, V-Tech, and Toshiba -- the Sony spread spectrum is the best of them all BY FAR. The only downside is the automatic channel changing which can be a little strange, but the reception is fantastic.

The worst? Motorola, surprisingly enough (this was back in 1995). That phone was awful.

My sony 900 Mhz is one of the first they came out with (about 4 years old). Not only does it still get a great reception (Much better than my 2 year old uniden), but the battery life is still at least 2 days of use. I have had many cordless phones, but this thing has lasted the longest. I really love this phone, and finally ordered me one of the new ones with built in caller-id and answering machine. If that one lasts as long as the first, I won't have to get a new phone for a very long time.

Sony phones are awesome. I have had a sony spread spectrum 900mhz for over 2.5 years. It is crystal clear and has great range, probably up to 1/4 mile. I will always buy Sony.

Ah, yes.... in no time the debate has degenerated into "Sony sucks!"

Why people make such ridiculous blanket statements about an entire BRAND I dont know. How many phones does Sony make? And how many of them have you owned, and had a problem with? Either the answer is one, and you're making an unfair generalization. Or the answer is several, and then we have to question your intelligence for buying so many phones that you "knew" were crap.

For what it's worth: I've owned four or five different Sony cordless phones, and all have been fantastic. Never any problems. That's not to say this phone couldn't be a total piece of junk. It very well may be, or it might not be. Only people who own this phone can give us a fair review of it.

Yeah, I personally don't know about Sony phones, but the quality of cordless phones in general is a joke.

My roommate buys a $90 AT&T, 900mhz, caller id, ans. machines...it doesn't give a dial tone 1/2 the time, fully charged of course. He returns it for a Panasonic with similar features, and it works fine...except the scroll-down funtion only works when it wants to. Kind of defeats the purpose of built-in caller id, right? What a waste of cash.

I don't know, maybe simpler phones don't have as many problems.

it doesn't hurt to give your opinion about a certain brand if the hot deal is an item of that brand.
I've only owned 1 sony phone 3 years ago, and it was a piece of crap. It wasn't a 900 mhz phone. But it had horrible reception and it stopped working after a few days. Returned it and got another, same problem. Purchased it again from a different store and same problem. My $30 toshiba was a much better phone. In fact, I still use it and I have had no problems with it. As they say, first impressions count. I personally would never buy uniden or GE products :)

i aint smokin up anybodys a$$...but my experience with sony phones has been crappy....i used to work in a retail store where somebody there was in love with sony phones and kept opening boxes of new phones every few months to use in our dept. and i can tell u they really suck....the best experience ive had are with panasonic phones and they hardly ever got returned...sony was our number one returned phone by customers. My landlord has a sony phone and the battery compartment is so crappy that when u shake the phone the battery gets loose and you haveto go and put it on the charger for a sec or 2 to reset it. Mind you this is not an isolated case, in fact we had the same problem with several sony phones with the same design at work.
I currently use a panasonic 2.4ghz and simply love it.

<< STAY AWAY FROM SONY PHONES >>

I bought a Sony 900 mhz cordless a few years ago, and it is by far the best phone I own. No other cordless I've tried can reach as far. I've since bought two more cordless phones, Lucents, and both died within a year. My two cents.

This is my point: People post that they had a Sony phone and it was horrible. Others post that they had a sony and it's the best ever. So, which is it? My point is you can't be certain. Buy a reputable brand (this is) from a reputable store (buy.com is), and you'll be fine.

Though I have to say: Comparing a non-900MHz phone to a 900MHz phone really isn't that useful. Large electronics firms like Sony have plants and distributors all over the world, and it's unlikely that any of the parts that went into your phone are even in this phone.

Jackal, I'm looking for the same thing...

Best I've seen so far is Panasonic 1731 at NetMarket for $79 (it's 89 at CircCity)

Anyone using those $10.00 V-tech Onvia phones? I get sooooooooooo much interference in my apartment. I know more than I need to know about those who live next to me. Time for 2.4 Ghz?

Panasonic 1731 ? Bad review on amazon and only $60 there. I own a panasonic 900mhz (i believe it's 1731) and it's not that good as I thought. The feeling is quite nice, but the quality... yuk. For that SONY, apparently it's cheap ugly silver plastic crap.

I have to agree about Sony phones, they blow. I have had at least 5 models starting with their very first 900 Mhz CID that cost about $300. If they work great initially, which I doubt, they won't for long. Resist that urge to "click" on this deal.

SONY PHONES PLAIN SUCK! All the people I know who own Sony phones get terrible sound quality and poor reception. After trying out other people's phones at their homes, I bought a Panasonic 900Mhz and have had 0 problems.
