Belkin Nostromo n52 SpeedPad - Game Pad Our Price: $23.98 Price After Rebate(s): $18.98

This thing is great, I paid $39.99 for mine a couple of months ago, it took some getting used to but now I couldnt play (Q3) without it :D

I never did any strafing or back pedaling with my keyboard, I just smacked the space bar to jump, once in a while I would crouch, I developed my own style and did very well, now with the n52 I can really kick some ass, strafing back pedaling, circling, better maneuver ability in the air, it is fun to smack around some guy who is using an aimbot and have him accuse you of cheating :D:D:D

Although not quite the same, I got the PS2 Nostromo gamepad a couple weeks ago from buy.com, so close enough.

It is indeed a sweet controller, no doubt this one is too. Very sturdy, high quality product. Highly recommended!

The 52 is great. It took a little getting used to after my N50, but I wouldn't go back. (Plus my son won't give up the N50.) The Nostromo series RULES!

I picked this upon two weeks ago and it rocks. Does anyone know how to have multiple profiles for different games on the utility with one controller? Or can you only have one profile active at a time?

I have both the n50 and n52 and would never want to go back to the keyboard.

Everyone is correct about it taking a little while to get used to. If you can stick it out for about a week or two you will find that the Nostromo is the ultimate weapon. I love mine.:D

Despite me not playing many FPS games (yet), would the n52 be helpful in any other programs? Any normal programs (browsing, Windows, etc.) or other types of games?

Can you plz tell me why it's better then a keyboard? I've been "strafing back pedaling, circling, better maneuver ability in the air" for years now on keyboards. So what will this do for me?

Just tryit out for a period of time, and you will notice the difference. It's alot more cormftable.

One big thing for me is that you can program Macros (a series of keystrokes) for single keys. For example in Call of Duty I programed one of the Nostromo keys to zoom and change rate of fire. That way I just push the button once and my guy zooms and has his rifle switch to single shot for sniping at the same time. Also for games with big maps you can program a macro to repeat a single key, in this case the forward button (for most fps's W). So you just push the button once and your guy goes forward on his own until you push the button again to release the macro. You can do the same with crouch in alot of games.

I use the n52 with MyIE2. I programmed a few keys to switch tabs, and page up, page down.
works nice.

I image I could probably do something nice with Photoshop too.

I use a Logitech trackball and when I play I kick back in my reclining office chair, I used to have the keyboard to my left and only used a couple of buttons because it was a pain to look left to the keyboard to see the keys......

With the n52 I can kick back, put my feet up on the subwoofer and have the trackball resting on my right thigh and the n52 on the desk to my left exactly where my arm rests.

With the "D" pad and two thumb buttons so easily accessible it adds a whole new dimension to my game.

I have taunts bound to some of the keys and for those laggy times I have buttons programmed to change my max FPS, if a server lags and you can drop your max fps you can be playing fine while others are lagging.

Its all about what works for you, and at this price it is well worth trying it out, you will like it :D and by the way, it doesnt replace the keyboard, it is an addition to it.

I play alot of First Person Shooters and a normal person that uses the keyboard uses their WASD configuration. After about an hour or so of playing I would find my fingers would cramp and it was just plain uncomfortable.

I first bought the n50 about 2 years ago and it was awkward at first. I then programmed the thumb pad to be WASD and now I can play for hours without ever cramping. When the n52 came out I rushed out and bought it because my son wanted my n50. Now we can both frag for hours on end.

The n52 will NOT replace your keyboard but if you program it correctly you won't be typing on it very often.

Give it a shot.

It's alot easier to keep your position on the keys than on a keyboard. You can program each key for whatever you want. No more reaching for keys, loosing your place on the keyboard, then having to look to see what you are doing.
You can program any key or control on the speedpad for any key on the keyboard.
That means numbers, "F" keys, delete, backspace, escape,...anything.
You can set it up for web surfing, gaming, even typing! (that is if you can type with your left hand only).
It can be programmed to perform, IIRC, 104 seperate key functions, plus you can set each key to perform the aforementioned macros.
It has 14 keys (each of which can perform 4 separate functions)
Programmable scroll wheel, with 3 individual function settings (which can also be set for macros or keystrokes) X 4
8 position "D" pad (same deal here) X 4
Two thumb buttons, samo, samo.
I find it hard to believe anyone could use it to it's full potential.

My wrist used to kill me when after playing a few hours on the keyboard. I got this, because it's a lot easier on my wrist. Keyboard's great for typing, not gaming.

Yeah, I kind of wish someone would put together a Dummies guide for this one.

I've been using it for about 5 months, and wouldn't go back to normal mouse/keyboard.

Someone asked this before ... but I will ask again :)

I do NOT play any FPS games AT ALL. I am mostly into real time strategy, adventure and RPG games. Will the N52 be beneficial for me too ?

Thanks in advance for any feedback !

You make a profile.....name it.......then attach it to the exe of the game you are looking to bind it to. If you want an extra set of keys within the profile then you have to use the shift feature. I dont think you can have two profiles for one game....I could be wrong.
