Buy an X850 PRO or an X800XL for $299?

I was looking in CC at video cards and saw the RADEON X850 PRO and the X800XL for $299 (agp version). My question is, which one is better for the money?

X850PRO: 520MHz core, 12 pixel pipelines , 34.6 GB/s Bandwidth

X800XL : 400MHz core, 16 pixel pipelines , 31.4 GB/s Bandwidth

I'm not really sure which one would perform better with newer games (CoD2,FEAR,HL2,DOOM3).

Any suggestions?

if you like to dabble with even minor overclocking, I would think the X850 would perform a little better..

The XL's do not have much headroom for any overclocking.. I'm not quite sure if the extra 4 pipes make that much of a difference...

go to microcneter and pick up a x850xt for %299 and get the $59 rebate so total cost id$250. faster than both by far. if there are no microcenters in your area, pick up a x800xt all in wonder off of newegg(all in wonders cost ess than non all in wonders) for $289 or so. Faster than x800xl or x850pro also.

There are no Microcenters near me, and i don't want to order it online. Altho I do appreciate your suggestions.

I'm going to make this purchase today, and would like to have more feedback on these two cards. Thanks.

Ok, but how would you go about flashing? I have no experience with that. Also, with the flashing, do you get the full 16 pipes instead of 12? Are there any issues (like artifacting, something like the 6800 to 6800GT)?

Any other replies are welcomed.

X800XL = X850Pro noAA/noAF, but slightly > with AA/AF

So go with x800xl.

But 6800GT is a better buy at $300 if you can find it. It'll be faster Doom 3 and FEAR.

6800GT > X800XL in fear

Also Nvidia cards seem to perform much better historically than ATI cards when it comes to noAA/noAF. So right now both of these cards will soon start requiring turning these features off, where 6800GT will start to slowly pulling away (since ATI cards usually catch up having more efficient AA algorithms).

it;s easy. the instructions sound pretty complicated, but just type the owrd in right and use the right rom and utility and ut's a 10 minute process including download and reboots.

better by far.
Yep, they can't beat that one... Otherwise, I'd pick the X800XL too...

IMO, the best option would be to buy this... You'll even get VIVO... On the AGP side, this is one to look out for... No other card represents a better value for the moment...

EDIT: Unlocking that X850 Pro may work, or may not work... this one's sure to operate at 16 pipes... Overclocking can give you even more power...
