Buy a condo in the city (Chicago specifically)

Does anyone live in a condo in Chicago? I am wondering if these are worth it. I guess I find it a bit strange "owning" this when it's just looks like a house. How much say do you have in it. Who oversees the place etc.... any clues?

I want to buy something that I will eventually rent off depending on what I want but for now I'm trying to avoid renting at 1K+ or living with 4 roommates. I make decent money but I feel like I'd be wasting it living alone in a rented apartment.

Wow, that seems pretty nice at a reasonable price for Chicago. I've never lived there, but I have always heard prices were insane in the city.

It doesn't list the property tax...any idea what they might be for a place like that?

Is this one of those properties where they accept the highest offer after opening it up to bidding? If so, expect this to end up close to $320k.

well thank you for your post but the link was an example. so far no one has answered my questions. This is what happens when I use OT..

Streeterville, moving to North/Clybourn in a month or so.

Humbold park is a bad, bad neighborhood. Predominantly Latin King, lots of gang violence and shootings.

Some middle school kid was beat to death in the summer, mistaken for a rival gang member.

Yeah, my buddy has been teaching high school there for about 5 years now. He's lost at least 3 of his kids to shootings.

sad.

Friend of mine lived on the cusp of Humboldt and wicker park, place got broken into twice, called cops for gunfire twice as well.

OP: look into Rogers Park. it's far north Chicago (still in the city).

Prices are still cheap and the neighborhood is moving up fast.

That listing is either an error, scam, or in the ghetto. No property like that will sell for that price in Chicago. That is a $250k condo.

There's a reason why those condos are priced lower compared to other areas in Chicago.

As stated before in the thread, unless you love gunfire and shooting people from your windows, I'd look elsewhere. Does the condo NEED to be in the city? The train lines arent that bad if you wanna take mass transit.

Only the right spot...parts of Rogers are worse than Humbolt

It's gentrifying, huge.

One way to gauge the trend of a city neighborhood: where are the gays moving?

Well, they've been fleeing Boystown for more than 5 years now, and many have moved up to Rogers Park. This means that you will soon have nice restaurants, clubs, businesses, nice homes and neighborhoods. Consequently, you will soon be seeing property values more similar to Lakeview and Southport area.

Boystown was shit before it was Boystown.
