Jeff7181 makes some very good points. You don't have to agree with him, but that doesn't mean he's wrong. Everyone's needs and usage are different. What works for some people won't work for others. Live with that and move on. I don't hate metro, but I'm not the biggest fan of it either. There's definitely some interesting things going on with it, but it needs a lot more time in the oven, especially for the desktop. And I don't see the point of it being on the next version of Server.

Metro is a stepping stone in the right direction (much better than static app icons on iOS), I just don't think that Microsoft will master it in the first try. IMHO.

I don't think they've mastered anything the first try. Or anyone else for that matter.
 
To the OP, I'd definitely say try Windows 8.

I personally can't stand Windows 8 and the whole braindead Metro silliness, but I say try it for yourself and decide for yourself. Since you're starting fresh, and you can try the preview for free you have nothing to lose. No brainer really.
