odd's are piss poor, but the Jackpot is over $100 million. And the game's only been running for 5 draws now. Show me ANYTHING that can possibly make me 100+ million for 6 and I'll never play the lottery again.

odd's are 1:175million *cough* but the payout is siiiiiick. I'll never win, but I throw my 2 bucks a week in, why not?

thast how i think of it...if you can afford to just throw away 2 bucks, like going to the casino - expect to lose your money. it's only for entertainment, and that SLIGHT chance of winning.

There's a better chance of me paying retail at Staples than winning this.

But what the hell, is this played in Oregon?

heh statistically it actually does make sense to play the lottery, because while the odds are indeed horribly bad, someone does eventually win =p So as long as you're not blowing all your savings on it playing for $2 a week isn't that bad.

Like I always tell people, and I don't even really play the lottery (maybe one ticket every other year), tell me one time the state is going to say, "Oh, since you've been paying taxes, we decided to give you $100 million dollars." Ain't gonna happen. I'd rather have the lottery out there than just having my taxes increased. At least SOMEONE has a chance of winning.

Of course, I don't think it's great when people blow their family's income on lottery tickets at the expense of feeding their children or whatever.

My $.02

Thanks, OP!

Mega Millions was a major scam BEFORE they added California to the list of participating States AND the extra numbers...now the odds of winning are just so nutty that it's a TOTAL waste of money to play.

I recently started play the "regular" lotto with much lower jackpots but at least the odds of winning a lot of money are a hundred times better than hitting the Mega Rip-off.

The odds of winning the Michigan Classic Lotto (grand prize of ~1.5M to ~3.5M) is ~10.7M to 1.

Don't get me wrong...the odds of winning ANY lotto jackpot are extreme, but I'd rather dream "big" with awful odds (e.g., Michigan Classic) verses dreaming the REALLY BIG DREAM by playing the Mega Millions with crazy odds.

Plus 100% of my "losing money" goes into Michigan schools verses other states coffers.

As with the stock market AND the lotto...Risk is generally equal to the reward.

At least by playing ANY lotto, we can keep dreaming of winning the jackpot🙂

Plus...by my estimation, I choice to use a "system" for playing the Michigan lotto by playing $30/month (and spliting the cost/winnings with a friend) to cut our odds of winning 1 time per month to ~<85,000 to 1.

Regards,

Bud

Being an engineer, I don't play the lottery (either state or megamillions) until the jackpot reaches the odds. So, if the odds are 175M:1, I'll wait until the jackpot reaches that amount before putting my couple dollars down. If the jackpot goes alot higher, say $250M+, I may put in $5. But by waiting until the jackpot is very large, at least I find myself only playing every couple months.

Being an engineer you should also realize that when the prize gets bigger the amount of tickets sold gets higher and the chance of you splitting the jackpot with other winners increases. So you will probably end up with about the same prize.

It is a good way to keep from playing twice a week though.
