Would it be wiser to buy the 939 venice 3000+ right now if I can find it for a decent price?

Or would it be better to just wait for christmas and see what kind of deals are going out there for perhaps the 3200+ or another processor.

Well if you buy a used 3000 venice off these forums, you can find one for $90 shipped. So thats significantly less than an opteron. Although you can probably find a 144 opty for around $140-$150. Id go for the venice myself. Unless you really want like 3ghz heh.

Thanks for that response. I don't really understand the whole processor thing so I'll just go for a venice since I've read the most about them.

V3000 is the most cost-effective CPU that I've ever seen
although it is no more in production.

I think numerical differences between V3000 and later model are hardly realized in everyday computing.

If you have limited and not enough money, V3000 will be the best choice.

Nice to see sanity from a 1 time poster. Welcome to Anandtech!
