What happens if the amp is too powerful?

Does it blow a hole in your pants? :Q

No, it would just be too uncomfortable. If you're talking about massive amounts of power, the thing would probably just stop working.

So they have a voice coil like a regular dynamic speaker?

I have an amp that's 6.4kW RMS at 4 ohms.

6.4kw????????

my "bassshakers" are designed to work on a max of 40 watts. 100x that much would smoke them i think...

They do work pretty sweet though. Any frag in a game and your chair vibrates like mad

Not quite... they are like an inverted speaker. Normally the magnet is static and the voice coil drives the diaphragm up and down. Butt buzzers have the "speaker" part stationary and the voice coil moves the magnet up and down.

Most of them operate at low wattages. <50 watts.

I would think the poor voice coil will smell very bad as it is burning before you could reach that amount of power draw from the amp.

Even a floor tom pad with the gain at +10?

I'm sure something will have to give though. We tried various woofers and they make noises like firearms.

It's an Lab Gruppen amp.

The infamous Motorboating -- When my subwoofer did that, I decided it was time to buy a better one.

8 Ohms is a waste of a good amp.

Do they make any noise?

Some couches squeak.

Well, the bass shakers vibrate a lot. My couch happened to be made out of like 2x4s and was old and cheap. If I turned the shakers up really high, it made some noise, nothing too bad though.
