"but we may very possibly do a second round of interviews..."

I was given an interview with the city of Ottawa for a traffic counter position, but instead of calling me they called my mom's place to inform me of this. Left a message on my machine saying to call back the next day at the latest (friday) of course I got this message on friday night. Anyway I called on tuesday when they were first open and this woman told me that all the interviews are booked but they may very possibly do another round of them, in which case they would hang on to my resume for it.

I'm wondering if this is a common line that means "don't bother calling again" or if you think this actually means that there might be another round. I'm really not sure with these government type positions.

Thanks - Rob

usully, if they don't want you, they will flat out tell you. It is a waste of their time to give you hope, snice you will call abck later.

Good point

I've not heard that BS line before, but HR is typically full of it. However, based on just that I wouldn't give up hope. They may in fact have a second round, though I wouldn't hold my breath.

Would you guys say it's a good idea to call them on tuesday (a week after I first called) and ask what the status of the 2nd round of interviews was ?
