But seriously this time...best 12" sub for $100 shipped?

I'd like some constructive advice, not the bickering that the last thread turned into. Those that want to argue about box designs, feel free not to post here.

I'd really like to stay at $100 shipped max. Looking on etronics I see:

Infinity KAPPA 120.3SE $85
Kicker 01C12VR 12" Component VR $85
MTX T6124 Thunder6000 $80

Cheaper...
Rockford Fosgate Punch HE RFP3412 $70
Infinity 1232W $65
Kenwood KFC-W3005 $50
MTX T4128 Thunder4000 $45

+ $15 shipping

There is a slew of others as well, pioneer, RF, sony, but these looked like good prices for semi-decent to decent models to me.

For the price, could I really go wrong with the Kappa? I've had friends with Infinita Kappa midrange stuff and I liked it, and the overall look of the driver is very appealing to me.

What are some other sites with similar/better pricing?

edit: the kicker compvr is DVC, 4ohms per coil...my amp is rated for 250w RMS bridged at 4ohms, and I've heard it's not terribly stable at 2ohms, so would it be a problem running in series at 8 ohms?

well if you go ported, you can build your own box out of MDF and then....*gag*

yeah, anyone want to suggest a 10" as well? same price range!

get an Image Dynamics IDQ 12" or an Adire Audio Shiva. Those are about $125, but are wayyyyyyy better. If that that is too much, go with the 12" Kicker Comp VR like TrueBlue said.

How is it better really? It's be at least $35 more, and, I know this will sound pretty ghey, they don't look all that great as far as durability goes...my car is subjected to the elements 24/7...

I had two IDQ 12's V1 and they blew with hardly any usage or power. My friend's did the same thing.

IDQ v2's are much better in terms of power handling. Shiva's are just awesome subs period. HUGE xmax and very controlled. My friends tempest (the 15" version of the shiva) has the control of a good 12 with more low end. The shiva and tempest lack on the looks, but wtf cares? How often are you gonna look at em? Personally i'd recommend the shiva's, its basically a beefed up IDQ.

The kicker compVR is DVC, 4ohms per coil (the ones I've seen for a good deal are, I know they make 2ohm/coil models too)...my amp is rated for 250w RMS bridged at 4ohms, and I've heard it's not terribly stable at 2ohms, so would it be a problem running in series at 8 ohms?

Don't worry about watts, omhs, etc...

A sub's limiting factor, at any given frequency, is its surface area times its X-Max.

This is worth repeating:

***A sub's limiting factor, at any given frequency, is its surface area times its X-Max.***

the formula for the surface area of a circle is A =Pi*R*R

Assuming all 12" subs ahve the same basic surface area, the one with the largest Xmax will have the loudest out put at a given hz.
So, just go here and find your sub:

When you consider price, the Shiva is a clear winner.

See if some other online retailer ahs them for less, or if Adire will give you a discount.
