Only a 7970 is a 7970. To try to use a newer generation product to fill in for an older generation product for a longevity comparison is completely illogical.

This thread has been reported as a troll thread, and I agree.

First of all, your OP references a 7970 GHz which is not the same as a regular 7970.

Secondly, a 280x is the same exact GPU as a 7970 GHz but at a lower clock speed.

So in a way you are correct, a 7970 GHz would kick the 680's ass even more than the 280x would.

Yes I am aware of that.

7970 does not beat 680 I already showed that.

390 and 970 were released poles apart in terms of timeline so not a fair comparison.

Explain how your theory is valid when the two generations of AMD gpus that came after it (the 290 generation and the 390 generation) beat the Nvidia cards it competed with (the 780 and 970 respectively)?

Still waiting for concrete data on the performance degradation of the 780 and how much it really is.

The 390 and 970 are released too far apart to be declared a "generation win".

So you are going to sit here on the Anandtech forum and directly ignore the benchmarks I got from the ANANDTECH benchmark where the 780 gets beaten in every game tested?

No, you showed us a video where the 680 beats the 7970 in SOME games. In that same video it beats it in other games. At best your video shows to be a tie.

They were released a year apart you know. So AMD beats out a 1 year old card? Wow that's some generation win.

I guess you didn't watch the video. The 2 cards were exactly the same when all the games were averaged.

False. the GTX 970 released on September 18, 2014. The 390 was released on June 18, 2015. They were not a year apart.

9 months apart is a big time.

So the 7xxx series is a failure. Doesn't say anything about AMD cards having better longevity.

390 / 390x were just rebrands of the 290/290x which released the year before the 970...

Also since we are looking at longevity:

BF1 7970 had 29 fps to 16 of the 680.
COD 3: 37.4 vs 25.4
Ryse: 35.7 vs 29.4
FC4: 35.3 vs 29.9
CoH 2: 35.9 vs 30
Dirt Showdown: 55.9 vs 45.5
Skyrim: 74.9 vs 69.5

The others are basically even with 7970 (not even GHZ version) slightly faster
