My BB was out so I went to CC and got a 110% pricematch!! Manager kept the rebate reciepts (darn I'll have to print them off the website). Now to sell the Benq I got at Officemax.com. Anyboy ever return anything to OfficeMax bought online to the BM and the upc is missing?? They are going for nothing on Ebay.

Went straight to CC. $26.80 including tax and $50 worth of rebate coupons. Cannot beat that. Several left @ Sahara & Decatur Las Vegas.

Thanks digitallinh

This was of course after 110% PM to BB

At my Best Buy, none of the boxes said anything about JustLink or SmartBurn or anything like that. Just some generic stuff about buffer underrun protection. I bought one and got an Acer. For all I know, all the rest were Lite-On, but there was seriously no way to distinguish based on the box.

Picked up one last night, there were about 6 or 7 more at my Best Buy in Nashville.

Installed it and sure enough, the shipping firmware is Lite-On...no flash needed. Disabled SmartBurn and copied an audio CD at 52x with Nero, no pauses or slowdowns. Wow, what a quality drive. Having tried and returned my share of Cendyne/Benq/Asus/Verbatim drives lately, it feels good to finally end up with this unit.

The quality of the drive rocks, as well as the price...as is not having to hassle with rebates! This deal is super-hot.

Thanks AnandTech!

I went to Best Buy and found the Buslinks and the shelf said $49.99 and then I was walking around the store and found an overstock shelf with a few on it for $29.99. I immediately grabbed one and went to the register and it rang up $79.99 and I told the cashier that the shelf says $29.99, he went and checked and that was what I paid for it ($29.99) :)

The best buy i went to was Galleria Houston, the one with CC and Compusa within half a mile from it. Thats a good idea, i guess you can goto CC and pricematch it to get the rebates. COOL! i love the drive, especially for 29.99 ehhe, this is a HOT DEAL.

Dang! Good deal. I hate dealing with rebates so this is great!
Unfortunately... It's Tuesday... And my BestBuy closes @ 9.
So I'm gonna try and get in on this tomorrow. (Wednesday)

I went into Best buy and their price was 79.99 and I told them about CC....the guy said "I know, we just did a price match an hour ago but we arent anymore cause CC doesnt have any in stock" Well I BS'd with him and he said to at least get a CC flyer......so I go across the street (literally) and bring back a CC flyer and he hooked me up.

They had 6 on the shelf, 5 with justlink stickers, and only one with the "smart burn" sticker.....sure enough its a Lite-on!

So, is there a model number on the outside of the box that garuntees that it's a lite-on, or is the only "garuntee" the smart burn sticker?

That's it , pal. The Lite-Ons have SmartBurn and Smart-X on the box. Those are Lite-On's specific names for those features, so you won't see them on a box if it doesn't have a Lite-On inside.

I was just wondering because the folks at Cendyne we kind enough to put the Lite-On model number on the outside of the box for us a few weeks back when CC had the 48X CD-RWs for $20 ;)

Guess since I did so well on that I gotta take a risk now ;) hehe

I went to BB yesterday and it was back up to 79.99. I spoke with a sales dude and luckily he had just bought the drive on sunday for 29.99. I also had the add from CC with me. The sales guy talked with his mananager, and they agreed to give it to me for 29.99 out the door. So I would have the CC add with you and tell them that you heard it was 29.99 out the door just the other day, but YMMV.

Awww....nevermind then. If I weren't so lazy, i'd just flash my 40x to a 48x......but I am lazy, and I'm not going to :p

Those punks at BestBuy!

I went in there... Found the drive. Waited around a while to ask one of the sales guys if the deal was still good... He said it was working fine yesterday... But that he thought it had ended last night. He told me I could go to customer service and ask them... I ended up waiting a while there too... The guy there told me it would work fine. So then I wait forever in line to get to the ashier... The cashier looks at me and says sir we can't pricematch this... I'm like the guy over there told me I could. She then says we'll we were yesterday... But now we're not. I say "How nice..." Anyway. I ask to see the manager... It takes at least 20 minutes for one to show up. Then the girl (manager) says they are no longer honoring the $30 price because of the mail-in rebates or something. At this point I had wasted almost 1 hour in BB. I was quite pissed but am not one to make a scene. So I say "whatever" and walk out.

I then remembered that Staples pricematched. There happen to be one 2 minutes away... So I figured hey I might as well try.
So I head over to Staples. Find the drive. One of the sales people come up to me... I ask if they can pricematch the CC ad. Dude says sure no problem. He unlocks the drive for me. (It was locked up) I take it up to the counter. Cashier rings it up. She types in the pricematching stuff. Didn't even have to ask for a manager or anything. I walk out in 5 minutes with the drive for a little under $30. Thanks Staples for making things easy!

Edit: Staples had their own rebate that printed out with it (the drive)... However they just threw it away cause they said it wasn't valid on price matches... I didn't mind at all.
