I had to return the first one I got at staples- the NEC 1300 was defective. The replacement package contained a lite-on 411s. The 411S worked fine burning a TDK +R 4X DVD. From what I've read, there are issues with -R media, but the latest firmware supposedly addresses most of these problems.

Thinking about getting one for myself. Can I flash the firmware of the Buslink burner to the standard NEC or LiteOn firmware depending on which I may get????

I updated my NEC to 1.08 firmware without any problem.

No problems flashing the LDW-411S with the latest firmware. Looks like it would be possible to get another $12 off the price using the coupon
