I rushed a business fraternity at UPenn, initially with no intention of ever pledging. I have rushed other frats before for the same reasons: free food. I got a(n) (unexpected) bid from the business frat, and I'm pretty much on the fence about pledging. Some info:

--It is a coed frat, but all the members are called brothers.
--They do a lot of philanthropy and professional events (such as community service type things or running their annual career fair)
--I think about 50% of the brothers are very cool.
--I feel I don't really know anything about 25% of the brothers yet.
--I think about 25% of the brothers do not seem that cool (not necessarily douchey or anything, just uninteresting)
--Many people think pledging is about the same time commitment as taking an additional class
--I am already taking 6 classes, and cannot drop any if I want to graduate in 4 years (dual degree studying business and bioengineering)
--They gave bids to 14 girls and 4 guys
--I am the only sophomore

Figure out the dues.

One of the biggest benefits is free books. But if the dues outweigh the books its up to you. I paid 25/mo for my dues but only had to buy 3 or 4 books throughout 3 years and had help with homework.

stupid shit like this is good for your resume. if you don't you'll still probably make it out ok, but any BS thing for your resume that sets you apart from someone else is always good.

Hey bra, show up at the house, hang out, get to know the bros. It'll be sweet! Just wait for brown tuesdays, man!

I was an accounting fraternity when I was in college. It was very beneficial, we had meetings once a week where representatives from different firms would come to meet us. Most of us had full time job offers at least a semester before they graduated. We did some community service and tutoring, that was about it.

If it's an academic fraternity, it will be useful. I've never been in a party type frat so I can't comment on that type.
