Thank God we have a closet Muslim, Commie-fascist (t changes daily), Savior, Anti-Christ in office now.

The Republicans have given you guys a gift, a rather large one, and most of you don't even realize it.

What do I mean? The arguments, the criticisms of Obama, from the Right are so ridiculous, they are all quite easy to refute. The calls of "socialism," the questions about his birth certificate, etc., it's all nothing more than trolling. And it's all quite loud. Loud enough to almost drown out the real issues, the valid criticisms which are ironically coming from the Left.

If the right-wingers ever grow a brain, tune out the Rush Limbaughs and the Glenn Becks, and actually start reading the likes of Glenn Greenwald and the Huffington Post, you guys might actually be in trouble. Because that's where I see the valid and more factual critiques of Obama's administration. And it's pretty damning.

So, no, we don't have a "Muslim, Commie-fascist (t changes daily), Savior, Anti-Christ in office" right now. But we still have a corporate shill, a warmonger, and a blatant disregard for civil liberties. Not to mention, a never-ending "war on terror," and an ever-increasing mountain of debt. What we don't have, ironically, is change.

Gotta laugh at the CallmeJoe point, yup it might be a close race for the bottom. But still both Harding and Grant were not totally morally bankrupt, and the comment of Warren's daddy still rings true, as he said, "Warren, you are lucky you were not born female,
because you don't know how to say no, and if you were born female you would always be in the family way."

Naw, GWB delighted in twisting Cheney's knife. And deserves his place as the worst of the worst.

Presidents Grant and Harding personally may have lacked the patina of evil you see on Messrs. Bush and Cheney, but the topic title was Bush administration. Whatever corruption the Grant and Harding administrations lacked in the Oval Office was more than compensated in their Cabinets.

And that is is a point, CallMeJoe when you say, "Whatever corruption the Grant and Harding administrations lacked in the Oval Office was more than compensated in their Cabinets."

We still have to remember that GWB fired both Ashcroft and Powell under the theory that one good apple can spoil a whole bushel of rotten ones. God knows both Ashcroft and Powell had their faults, but when they end up looking like the lone good guys, its hard not to vomit. After all, how many optional new wars did Grant and Harding start? And did the economy collapse before they were out of office?

Glad those days are behind us. I'm much happier that we're all debating whether we should have health care rather than whether we should be invading a sovereign country that hasn't attacked us.

Germany didnt attack us either. Good point!

Oh wait, you're on the sidelines trying to be the QB..

Germany declared war on the USA. That is a pretty legitimate reason for the US to go to war. Nice try though.

Sorry, you lost this one. The fact is, Germany didnt attack us.

You're a tool if you think the Iraqi people didnt need help, and that they are much happier now. But then again, you havent been there. Walked the streets, talked to people. Just sitting back in your recliner trying to act like you know all the right moves to make.

/done with you

I respect your service to our country, but you are being an idiot.

We may not have "been in the shit" like you, but we have polls that show us that the majority of Iraqis have always favored immediate US pullout.

I wouldn't blame them....many of their innocent loved ones killed in the crossfire, looting that almost amounted to their GDP in losses, the dismemberment of their army leaving thousands of armed soldiers without jobs...the list goes on and on.

But... but... I was there, man! I signed up to go to college, but they made me fight! I deserve special privileges! I was in the shit!

I'm sick and fucking tired of the fucking military card. You're no more special than anyone else. You knew the risk signing up, now shut the fuck up about it. The people you should be pissed at are the ones who sent you there under false pretenses, turned their backs on you when you got injured, and basically used you. But then you'd have to admit the whole goat fuck was wrong, and unjustified, wouldn't you? Can't have that.

And why the fuck are the people who are screaming Obama is a Nazi defending fucking Nazis in this thread?!

If it was such a big deal, why didn't Congress give a declaration of war right then and there? Why wait until Pearl Habor and why did FDR lose so much political capital pursuing a Germany-first strategy? The answer is, overwhelmingly, because we were not acting neutral in those waters. You can't charge into a man's home, eat his food, shit in his toliet and then blame him for socking you in the face.
Admirably swift change of direction, Omar. Caught in factual error? Downplay the significance of the events you were wrong about...

Then why do a majority of historians side with my position?

Not really.

Everyone's argument (from both sides) may be correct depending upon your perspective.

There were at least 2 dozen US chartered ships attacked in some fashion before Pearl Harbor, the majority of which were in the North Atlantic.

Were there 'false flag' operations played by the Allies? Certainly. But many of the ships attacked in the North Atlantic were strictly US-owned.

Instead of arguing about this we should be discussing how "the most ethical administration in history" in their first month was outlining their Iraq attack strategy and dividing up oil assets.

I would like to meet the historians who do not consider the sinking of the Reuben James an attack on United States forces.

edit: I don't like Lemon law's quoting style.
He's new around here and not up to speed yet. And that quoting stuff requires those damn square brackets which are hard to find on a keyboard. If this site only had a way to preview all of that typing...

There's a wonderful new tool called the Internet. Try it out sometime.

I think I located him; he's a full professor at the University of Post Office Box 11985, in Cleveland OH. He was hard to find because their webU is hosted through the Dean's dial-up connection.

I suck as a peacemaker.

What the sinking of the Reuban James has to do with a thread on GWB ethics is beyond me, but the Reuben James was the first among other US naval vessels sunk by German subs before the US formally entered WW2.

And perhaps an understandable mistake as it was escorting a convoy of mainly British Ships. And during the dark hours well before dawn with no US flag visible, the sub commander probably assumed it was a British vessel. And even vessel silhouettes that might have revealed its American origin would have been worthless because FDR had already started a lend lease program to the Brits that turned over many American destroyers to full British command as they flew the British flag.

We had a couple of Bush Administration apologists chime in with "Germany never attacked the U.S." as rationalization for the Iraq invasion, ignoring the fact that Germany formally declared war on the United States. I offered the USS Kearney and the USS Reuben James as two examples of German attacks on U.S. forces even before their declaration, which Omar tried to deny...
