Anyway to find the raw data from the Zogby poll? The most striking thing on the Harris one to me was the general disapproval of congress and I was curious if Zogby was finding the same thing.

POSITIVE RATINGS
Democrats in Congress 38%

That pretty much says it all.
Yeah Americans are realizing that both the Parties are pretty pathetic along with their diehard supporters.

Being cynical is part of the problem Red.
Nice try Etech. If they were half way competent and honest we wouldn't be so cynical. If calling a Spade a Spade is cynical then so be it. Just wait until the cost of Nation Building hits the American Economy after we defeat Saddam without the help of the UN or NATO. The execution of the actual war will be dwarfed by the bill to try and keep Iraq from turning into an Oasis of Anarchy.

I know Red, each and every politician is a crook and a liar. We are only trying to take out Saddam to take over the oil fields. The system is so broke it isn't even worth voting anymore.

Cynicism, what will lead to the downfall of America.

What I don't get is why people love Powell so much? I mean, I have nothing against the guy, but you would think he would drop like the rest of the Bush Administration. Frankly, he seems to be turning in to the teflon secretary.

I already did, both in high school and college. How is that relevant? The purpose of my post was to show that the poll results you are trumpeting are several days older than those just released by Harris.

There is a reason for the cynicism. The politicians are liars, scum, and sellouts.

Because he's extremely credible and articulate. And anybody who pays even passing interest to the politics of war knows Powell has been arguing restraint and diplomacy within the administration for over a year since the infamous Axis of Evil crap surfaced. He doesn't mouth off cowboy rhetoric that annoys both moderate Americans and the overwhelming majority of other nations and their people. If Powell honestly makes the case for war (as he apparently now is doing), people are going to believe him because he's approached Iraq carefully and diplomatically the whole time. Oh, and him being orders of magnitude brighter than G.W. doesn't hurt.

Most of these approval ratings look like they came back to pre 9/11 levels. Powell's pre 9/11 approval was pretty high.
I actually think that Bush's approval might be a bit higher. Maybe 55% or so. But the trend is not good for him. He needs to get a boost from this Iraq war, and for the boost to last till the election.

IMO your analysis is spot on (except for not mentioning that unless war in Iraq goes catastrophically, most Americans will definitely circle the wagons once the invasion starts). The only question is if the economy will rebound to sustain that boost (and with the way Bush panders to the wealthiest Americans and calls that fiscal stimulus, I don't see that happening). As much as Bush wants to avoid (and correct) the sins of his father, he really is setting himself up in a very similar situation. The question for Democrats is if there's a charismatic, electable Bill Clinton in the mix of candidates to stage a surprise upset.

Ineptitude, Corruption and the fact that there really isn't any diifference between the Democrat and the Republican, despite what the Red Assed Pundits claim is the reason for the Cynicism. Despite that I will still vote but I refuse to pigeonhole myself by allying myself to either of the Main Parties.
