Bush's job approval rating drops to 52%

...President George Bush's job approval ratings have dipped to 52 per cent, a sharp decline from 64 per cent two months ago, a survey has said.

The Harris poll, a nationwide telephonic survey conducted by Rochester-based Harris Interactive, and released on Wednesday, said all members of Bush's cabinet, barring Secretary of State Colin Powell, have seen massive decline in their ratings.
Over the last two months, the number of people giving negative ratings grew to 46 per cent from 35 percent.
According to the article, only Powell's approval rating remains high, with 76% giving him a favorable opinion. The results of the poll were released today, but I can't seem to find anything about it on Foxnews, CNN, or MSNBC. I'd like to see the numbers for the rest of Bush's cabinet, so if anyone finds a link, post it here.

This isn't surprising to me. Regardless of how much power a president has over the economy, his popularity is always going to fall during an extended slowdown. Add to that the uncertainty over Iraq and the growing opposition in the rest of the world. It looks like Bush's war window might be closing...

I guess its time to start dropping bombs in large quantites.

I find this to be the most interesting:

"In December only 18% of all adults spontaneously replied "the war" when asked to think of the most important issues for the government to address. This was far below the economy at 34% but ahead of all the other issues.

Now, fully 38% say that "the war" is one of the two most important issues for the government to address, virtually tied with the economy at 37%. "

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice..ugh fool me twice and yer not going to fool me again..or something like that🙂Bushes Popularity Spike due to patriotism that embraced the country after 9/11 is starting to wane. Still 52% isn't so bad.

Thanks, ryzmah. I've been searching for 20 minutes and haven't been able to find a single source supporting the Times of India article, and I was starting to doubt its validity.

That pretty much says it all.
Yeah Americans are realizing that both the Parties are pretty pathetic along with their diehard supporters.

those comparisons between 9/11 and now are ludicrous...how can this site be trustworthy with biased crap like that on it

It does?

POSITIVE RATINGS
Republicans in Congress 43%

With a margin of error of 3 percentage points, that's pretty much a dead heat. Now factor in the change since December 2002--Republicans in Congress: -4 points, Democrats in Congress: +2 points.

Republicans in Congress 43%. The two sides are close, even before you take into account the margin of error.

While you try and spin by hiding the Republican numbers, the truth is both sides in Congress are taking a beating, while Bush seems to be relatively clean.

Being cynical is part of the problem Red.

My guess on Ashcroft is that half of those that approved of him didnt even recognize his name. You'd be suprised at how many people I meet that dont know who he is (they do know Powell and Bush, but not alot know Cheney).

Anyone else surprised with how high Ashcroft is?
I definitely am. It goes to show how little the average American has been paying attention to the activities of the Justice Department recently.

Edit: Is anyone else curious as to why none of the major American news outlets are reporting the poll results?

Nice try Etech. If they were half way competent and honest we wouldn't be so cynical. If calling a Spade a Spade is cynical then so be it. Just wait until the cost of Nation Building hits the American Economy after we defeat Saddam without the help of the UN or NATO. The execution of the actual war will be dwarfed by the bill to try and keep Iraq from turning into an Oasis of Anarchy.

The problem is, we have too many voting and too few paying taxes. This only encourages congress to overspend.

President Bush?s job performance rating jumped to 62% in Zogby America weekend polling, an increase of 5 points from his recent low of 57% in late January. More than a third (37%) of the 1,002 likely voters polled February 6-8 rated his performance as fair or poor.
These are some of the results of The Harris Poll®, a nationwide telephone survey conducted by Harris Interactive® among a sample of 1,010 adults, from February 12 to 16, 2003.

Sounds like a Liberal Democrats complaint to me.

survey was conducted 4 days after zogby...i'm just pointing out that you can't just put one set of polls out there and make a judgement because zogby, a decidedly widely respected pollster, has much different results, and he has a liberal leaning in his political views which would debunk that theory about zogby being biased before it gets stated
