Very interesting, Bush, being the former Texas Governor, is very familiar with dealing with Mexico.
One thing I would like to see addressed is the lax environmental regulations Mexico has due to NAFTA.
Some background:
Who was the number one guy pushing NAFTA thru? Al Gore, what took NAFTA so long getting signed? Well, part of NAFTA said USA, CANADA, and MEXICO all had to have clean industries, i.e. environmentally friendly plants and factories. But Mexico said no, they didnt want to spend all that money to upgrade thier plants to the level of US and Canada's, so Al gore let the regulations slide for mexico. Now right after NAFTA, lots of opurtunities for Mexico opened up, and they began building new factories and new power plants to support them right along the Rio Grande, these plants were cheap, because they didnt have to meet the same requirements plants in USA or Canada did. What direction does the wind travel in that area? North-West from the gulf.
Now we have all this smog coming into Texas, ruining what used to be the "Big Sky" State. Then we see the audacity of Al Gore an the democrats, the same people who allowed this to happen, to critisize the declining air quality in Texas during the 2000 election. Makes me sick. I am very upset about the damage to our nations precious natural resources just to get Mexico to sign NAFTA. I hope to God George Bush loves his state and forces mexico to elivate thier environmental standards to that of the US and Canada before any more business deals go through.
