So you'll know in advance, Peter Wallsten is legally blind. Double D'oh!

Bushism of the Day
By Jacob Weisberg
Updated Thursday, June 15, 2006, at 12:13 PM ET

President Bush: Peter. Are you going to ask that question with shades on?
Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times: I can take them off.
Bush: I'm interested in the shade look, seriously.
Wallsten: All right, I'll keep it, then.
Bush: For the viewers, there's no sun.
Wallsten: I guess it depends on your perspective.
Bush: Touché.

?Exchange with legally blind reporter Peter Wallsten, to whom Bush later apologized, Washington, D.C., June 14, 2006

I really hate Bush, but this is weak. He didn't know the guy was blind, no one told him. He's not psychic, hell, he's barely coherant, it was just as likely that the reporter was an arrogant prick wearing shades to look cooler than the rest of the press. This isn't even that funny, if at all. Now these are funny:

"You never know what your history is going to be like until long after you're gone."

"That's George Washington, the first president, of course. The interesting thing about him is that I read three ? three or four books about him last year. Isn't that interesting?"

"You took an oath to defend our flag and our freedom, and you kept that oath underseas and under fire."

There are so many weird, non-sensical, funny, and all fairly worrisome Bushisms, the blind guy with the shades is pretty much a non-event. Now, if he'd had the guy pulled by Secret Service, sent to Gitmo, and then found out later that he was blind...that'd make me chuckle nervously.

It's not a joke, it's an actual exchange between Bush and a reporter. I didn't see anything posted here. In any event, it's true - Bush didn't know the guy was blind, but still, this is the sort of awkward situation that results when the President insists on shooting from the hip with his rural Texas smart-assery.

If the guy had said, "The only sun(son) I see here is the Fortunate Son.", I'd send that guy real money.

I'm sure Rush or O'Reilly will twist it in a way that the blind reporter supports terrorism, but until then, there's not much here.

He's the White House correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, and bush doesn't know he's blind? How many years has he been doing this now?

What's really funny is the deer-in-the-headlights look al-Maliki had when bush dropped in for his little surprise visit. You'd think someone might have let him know bush was coming, since it's (supposedly) his own country and everything. TFF.

And Dubbya called him later to apologize.

At that same event Bush also told one reporter he'd asked a pretty good question "for an intern" and questioned another reporter about his scarf. The Decider was just on a roll that day.

He knows his press corp, he knew his first name. So for all the little apologists saying 'how could he know he's blind?' He knows them by name, he has a seating chart laid out to him, he knows, he's just an asshole.

That makes no sense whatsoever, it's a head of state, of a 'free nation' that he hired the puppet for. And what the hell does this have to do with the fact that dumbya KNOWS the press corp, has a seating arrangment, and called the man by name? It's not like the jackass said 'hey you, with the shades, what's your question?'

Doesn't mean he knew he was blind.

Liberals are really getting desperate.

Right, desperate, keep telling yourself that. I wouldn't trust dumbya to know the day of the week, but he knows the press corp, who's gonna toss him the extra-soft softball when he needs one.
If any group is desperate, it's your little band of psychos. And good luck to the morons pushing this Iraq/troop issue. It makes the repugs look great saying they want to endlessly extend this clusterfvck.

Again with the liberal angle? Jeez, I'm liberal, and I think it's lame to talk about this, stop pigeonholing me before I start talking about how all republicans want to steal the elections!

That's a myth...it was actually Ronnie Milsap he waived at. Still legally blind, but anyway.

I saw that clip on the news and laughed my ass off. Only in America, and only Bush. :)
