It just doesn't have the same angle of cruelty attached to it for white folk. There really isn't anything equivalent for us that's driven by the desire to invoke the feelings of the past when an entire race was subjugated.

For one, Obama doesn't look like a monkey. Bush actually does. His face does share many uncommon primate features. Gentle eyes, the eyebrow ridges, and slightly protruding ears. Not saying he's a dead ringer, but...

Second, for ages, the Klan and other patent racist have made black/monkey comparisons.

Having a Hitler haircut and mustache doesn't make you a Nazi, but it does make a statement...

Yeah, because it's a joke. When people compared black people to monkeys in the past, they weren't joking. They actually thought black people were less evolved than the rest of us. That's why a joke about a black guy looking like a monkey is assumed to be because of his race. Bush doesn't look like a monkey because he's white, he looks like a monkey because he has a monkey face.

ok for what? comparing an indivudual to a monkey? sure, in so far as a personal attack is ok.

now if i were to say all white people were slack jawed-knuckle dragging apes, drew illustrations of such, and forced them work on my plantation... that would probably not be ok.

however, that hasn't happened to white people in recent history, so comparing a white person to a monkey doesn't carry the same connotations as if you were to compare a black individual to a monkey.
