Bush trying to weasel out of third debate, should he?

President Bush is relying on longtime family adviser and former Secretary of State James A. Baker III to use a bit of diplomacy in negotiating the candidates? debates.

Kerry?s team, led by Washington powerbroker Vernon Jordan, approved the schedule in July.

The rumor is he is trying to get out of the town hall style debate. So without a teleprompter or vetted crowd he might say the wrong thing? Don't look behind the curtain I guess.

while i think there should be 3 debates, i can understand why he doesnt want to do the townhall debate. A heckler or democrat disguised as an independent could look bad, and not only that, incumbent Presidents usually have more to lose than gain in debates.

Oh, and FYI, Clinton only agreed to 2 debates in 1996.

I love that scared look the chimp gets on his face when there's a heckler or a tough question. He looks terrified. No actually I feel bad for him. He's like a scared child, one very stupid child put in the most important role in the world.

Of course they should do three debates. I feel this is the biggest election since Reagan and the American public deserves as much information from them that they can get.

I say if Bush will only do two debates then change one of the other two to the debate style Bush is afraid of which is the "Town Hall" unscripted style.

I thought he was trying to get out of the foreign policy one? Town hall is second (here in St. Louis!), third is foreign policy.

Oh, and he should definitely do them all. Three isn't asking too much of anybody.

I love how the left can belittle the intelligence of our President so much when he is, in truth, a very capable and intelligent leader. He has done a remarkable job as President and he deserves his due credit for that. He isn't the most articulate president we've ever had, but he stands firm for what he believes in. The fact that he doesn't deviate from his beliefs regardless of the ridicule he receives tells me something about his character. Character wins my vote, because this is a Republic. In a Republic, we vote for authority to make the decisions. We don't vote for authority who will be a puppet to the whims of the masses.

Vote principle over politics.

Hmm....Bill Clinton only did 2 the last time he was elected. Why is it appropo for 3 now? Hmm?

I'm sure this was mentioned in another debate thread, but wouldn't it be nice to see Kerry show up at the second debate anyways? What if he just went there and told the people, "I'm here, I'll answer your questions." I don't see a reason why not. It would be nice to see.

if his team is confident that america knows where he stands on the issues and they're comfortable with it then why should he?

you can't really have too many debates.

I'd like to see one debate on Iraq/Afghanistan/WoT, one debate on other foreign policy issues, and one on domestic issues.

Statistically debate are more beneficial for the challenger, that is most likely why Bill Clinton did not do 3 himself in 1996. Perhaps Kerry can debate himself for the 3rd?

When you're behind in the late rounds, like gw will be, you don't run from the other fighter in the ring. Let him skip the debates, it will only hurt him imo.

It's not a repost, new stuff came out today, hence the new articles and talk on the cable networks. Can we have more than one Iraq thread or is every development a repost?

Oh, I see, you don't like the content, you want to have the mods hide it for you. Sorry, these forums aren't regulated by Bush-Cheney, no oaths here to be signed here. 😉
