Bush to name Greenspan replacement at 1:00 pm

Per CNBC per Dow Jones newswire that Bush would name Greenspan replacement at 1:00pm today. Not much to add just passing on the news.

Let's hope for a "qualified" candidate as the Fed chairman could be more important than many of the other candidates that Bush has nominated, IMO.

I wonder how many feet from his office this search encompassed?

I bet the replacement is Barney the dog.

"He's the most qualified person I could find (without leaving my chair)."

His naptime is very important and must not be interrupted!

Yeah I expect the same croneyism as ever, also. I would like for them to pretty much select Greenspan's choice over just some buddy of dubya.

To be fair, I bet Greenspan takes naps too.

Yeah, just like a horsey-guy like Brownie was such a wonderful pick. Or the guy that anally rapes his wife being head of women's health or how about the coked-out, alcoholic, fake Christian that......

You wouldn't be "picky" in selecting one of the most important officials in the United States? I would. I'd be very, very picky indeed.

Of course I would. My point was that so many here offer up comments as if to suggest they have any experience with Economics and are qualified. I'm not sure why the left hates Greenspan so much -- after all, he presided over the "great" Clinton economic times. Either way, he'll be gone now.

I don't know that "the left" "hates" Greenspan. I don't think there's any broad-based sentiment to that effect at all.

I don't see that the qualifications of any member of this board have any relevance whatsoever to this discussion. Harriet Miers is probably more qualified than nearly any member of this board to sit on the Supreme Court (though I could make a case - with a straight face! - that I'm better qualified), but that doesn't mean she isn't a dreadful nominee with laughably poor qualifications.

I must say, it seems to me President Bush has demonstrated a real shortcoming with regard to his ability and/or inclination to select talented/well-qualified nominees for important positions of late (Harriet Miers?), and the notion of him replacing Alan Greenspan certainly gives me pause. The Bush White House has been among the most fiscally irresponsible in history, and President Bush doesn't seem to take well to being told "no" when he wants to do something. I hope we get another John Roberts and not another Brownie to replace Greenspan . . .

we still have time for mini pool.

I think Bush is leaning towards Pam DelaBar. She's done a mediocre job as president of the Cat Fancier's Association, so she's most certainly qualified for the job!

It had to happen someday, and has been rumored for quite a while, but I think most persons of intelligence, regardless of their political bent, will regret seeing Greenspan retire.

Until the last few years (when he has not spoken up enough about this Bush's economic irresponsibility) I've been very impressed with Greenspan. Without Greenspan's steading hand on the throttle this Bush would have made much more of a mess than he has.

In all fairness to Greenspan, he isn't in the position to question Bush. If he did, the economy would tank based on his words of criticism. That isn't to say that it wasn't there....he just isn't able to express them publicly because of his position.

On a side note, I would love to read a tell-all book by Greenspan after he leaves office. I think that his take on the last few presidencies would be pretty fascinating.

Likewise. I know there have been some specific criticisms of Greenspan, but in general, I've found he's well-respected across the political spectrum.

Wow, just wow. In other words, you don't give a snot who he picks as long as he knows more than us? Wow, what a partisan remark. I think the Fed chairman has done a fantastic job, IMO, but then again, what do I know. Replace him with a "crony" that has no clue and you'll end up with a far more fvcked economy than any hurricane would ever do.

<---- Shakes head at some of the remarks on here.....simply unbelievable.

At the very least, that guy wrote one of my economics textbooks.
