Your right when i posted the article i had never read it. However, i have since read it and if you had read more than the first paragraph you would see it was more than that.

since you obdviously missed it, Nixon recognized the mainland as the real china in the 70's and official derecognized taiwan as a soveriegn country.

The united states does not recognize the soverignty of taiwan.

The untied states as far as i know does not maintain an embassy in Taiwan.

Taiwan does not claim its own independence for gods sake.
