uhg.. Bush needs to get as far away from Wormtongue..errr, i mean Rumsfeld, as fast as humanly possible. We need a retired General put in as SECDEF, and we need it to happen yesterday.

Wouldn't that create unnecessary bias competition between the departments?
Say, a retired "army" general comes in and decides to cut funding for the "airforce" by 10% and choses to increase funding for the "army" by the same amount?

"army" can be interchanged with any department.
"airforce" can be interchanged with any department provided it's not the same as the one above.

The last thing we need is a retired army general coming in and saying "cut F-22 Raptor orders by 100, bring back the Crusader".
If we find the right one, that wont be as much of an issue as you might think. Alot of our Generals still maintain a sense of integrity that is missing throughout the rest of our government.

They can't seem to wait to criticize this administration as soon as they retire.
maybe that's not a bad thing! In fact, a little criticism is what is needed to make up for Rumsfeld's mistakes!

Would you settle for Wesley Clark?
maybe... I'd have to hear his plans spelled out first.

Powell would have been perfect for the job. Good luck on that now though.

Why exactly didn't he get the job in the first place? He was WAY more qualified than Rummy.

Over Donald Rumsfeld?
Who the hell wouldn't?

But who's to say an Admiral isn't capable of being Secretary of Defense?

An Admiral would be fine too... any retired military leader would be great!

He specifically said Rumsfeld to stay the remainder of his term
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said on Wednesday he expected Donald Rumsfeld to stay on as defense secretary for the rest of his presidency, rejecting election-year demands the Pentagon chief resign over Iraq.

Until after the election, when he claims that he never said any such thing.

Watch...

It doesn't really matter since it is essentially the same rank -- just a different branch. Seriously, quit play semantics.

Any idiot would be better than Rummy---the chilling part of Rummy is that he punishes anyone on the military who has ANY NON-RUMSFELD THOUGHT---everything must be tightly controlled----a very chilling message to send in any army---but it sure encourages the yes men---who say can do---when reality shows no way.

If we can stop this censorship---we might have an army that will do this country proud---instead of having a secretary of defense everyone except BUSH is ashamed of.
