0mar, after I dig up my Civ2 disk, if no one tells you what #3 is, I'll report on what my Vikings do then.
Doing that will castrate your final score. Democracy will let you research future technology very quickly - which is a major boost to your score. The only problem is you have a harder time starting wars, but there are always ways around that. For example, make the enemy hate you so much that they attack you first. if I remember correctly, later on in the game when you finish all research, you can switch to fundamentalism (which has horrible scientific research progress), but good for warfare.
