While I disagree with what Bush said, I think Daschle is blowing this out of proportion. For starters, he quotes Bush as saying "The Democratically controlled Senate is more interested in special interests in Washington and not interested in the security of the American people." When in fact, Bush said "The House responded, but the Senate is more interested in special interests in Washington and not interested in the security of the American people." There was no mention of Democrats there, and I don't believe that it was implied, either. Bush was trying to send a message to the Senate to get off their lazy @sses and hurry up with a resolution (again, I disagree with Bush's remarks).

Powerful stuff. But, from CNN.com -

But Bush's comments of late about Senate Democrats and national security have come in the context of the fight over legislation for the proposed Department of Homeland Security . The Bush comment about the Senate not being "interested" in national security came at a campaign event Monday in New Jersey when the president was talking about the legislation -- not Iraq.

Hmmm...looks like politicians are up to their usual tricks - both Democrats AND Republicans. Just for the record, I'm a Democrat.

Regardless of whether it was accurate or not, he sure is a powerful speaker (no pun intended).

Agreed. My old speech teacher would weep if Daschle was in her class.

Bush was stumping for Forrester earlier this week and had the following to say:

Speaking on the issue of homeland security before a fundraiser for Republican Senate candidate Doug Forrester, the president said, "The House responded, but the Senate is more interested in special interests in Washington and not interested in the security of the American people. I will not accept a Department of Homeland Security that does not allow this president and future presidents to better keep the American people secure."

Story regarding the content of GWB's speeches of late.

Full text of story regarding Daschle's remarks today.

Go nuts.

I wonder why this is just now becoming a revelation to some of you. Bush has been on the campaign trail for this upcoming election, raising an unbelievable 115 million for GOP candidiates on tax payer dollars, covering with some photo op and public announcement at every visit to some fund raiser acrossthe nation.

Bush is abosolutely politisizing this war effort against Saddam and Al Quada because of the dismal mess he has made with domestic issues such as the economy.

He is the most embarrasing President I have seen at times. Sometimes he is on que (and then you wonder who his speech writers are), and others he is a loose cannon, shooting from the hip and exposing his utter ignorance of the important issues facing this country.

What a legacy he will have.

Hey glad you could make your way to the forums Mr. Gore. Now, STFU until you know what you are talking about.
1. The economy was tanking before the last Presidential elections thanks to the bursting of the tech boom.
2. Bush politicizing the war? If that's what you want to call it then feel free to. I prefer to call it trying to do what is right.
3. Most embarrassing President? Did you miss the whole stained blue dress or the "that depends on what your definition of is, is." episode? Carter is a close second to Bill Clinton in the embarrassment department.
4. You mean like Clinton's legacy of pretty much doing nothing while he was in office but taking all the credit for things that were really out of his control? Or do you mean like Clinton's legacy of selling us out to the Chinese? Which is it?

the idiot Daschle wouldn't have these problems if he could just make up his damn mind which way he is leaning on the Iraq issue. And if you don't know what I am talking about, then you haven't been paying attention.

And everyone keep in mind, this speech is nothing more than Daschle warming up for his bid at the 2004 presidential election.

Now, STFU until you know what you are talking about.

Anytime you feel froggy, motormouth, just jump. You are the last person to tell me to STFU. You would like that though , like all GOP myopic Limburger clones who are apposed to allowing anyone speak in oppisition to your way of thinking.

And why don't you elabarate a bit on Clinton Selling out to the Chinese. seems to me Bush and Nixon made a few visits there selling out the US long before Clinton got on the scene. But you are just a drone spouting off the same crap we ahave heard ad naseum for years.

Try being a little more original.

Oh, and I'm glad to be here, although I have work to do more important than arguing with your silly ass.;)

I really can't stand Tom Daschle, just about every politician would politicize any thing for their own good.

As of lately I really can't stand Pres. Bush. I have to say, every year our government is going down the crapper just a little bit more.

Ribbett....ribbett.... I don't mind people speaking in opposition as long as they are well informed and not just spouting off. I'm myopic? Try looking in the mirror pal.....

And why don't you elabarate a bit on Clinton Selling out to the Chinese. seems to me Bush and Nixon made a few vists there selling out the US long before Clinton goton the scene. But you are just a drone spouting off the same crap we ahave heard ad naseum for years.
Oh I dunno....just a little thing about missile technology, or maybe it was the satellite technology, or could it have been all the shady Chinese characters he took campaign money from.....hard to remember.....

Try being a little more original.
Hard to be original when all of Clinton's foibles have been well documented in the press. How about I just say that I have about as much respect for him as I do an inanimate carbon rod or maybe a bowl of Jell-O

Oh, and I'm glad to be here, although I have work to do more important than arguing with your silly ass.;)

I really don't see that happening. He's too much of a lightning rod to even get uniform support from democratic voters, much less any crossover from GOP voters. It would be a wast of time for him to run. Besides, he seems to kinda relish being the Dem version of Newt with regard to teeing off on the Prez at every opportunity.

I think that even the correct initial Bush statement sucked, I think the reply was maybe a little over the top.

BUT...
They are in campaign mode.

May the most patriotic win.

And here is one for all the people who say "Dems/Reps are unpatriotic"...
It's fscking hard to find an unpatriotic American, especially in the US, and anyone who keeps flailing around with these sorts of comments (in this case Bush) is just full of sheit.

I mean, seriously, I have lived in many a country, and I have *never, never* seen a country with more patriotic people, from the politicians to the person who delivers newspapers or whatever.

Saying this is a lie. It is. Just because you don't agree with me, makes you unpatriotic?
