Bush: 'I regret saying some things I shouldn't have said'

As his presidency nears its end, a reflective President Bush suggested Tuesday that he regrets some of his more blunt statements on the war on terrorism over the last eight years and said he wishes he had not spoken in front of a "Mission Accomplished" banner only a month after U.S. troops in Iraq were deployed.

"I regret saying some things I shouldn't have said," Bush told CNN's Heidi Collins when asked to reflect on his regrets over his two terms as president. "Like 'dead or alive' and 'bring 'em on.' My wife reminded me that, hey, as president of the United States, be careful what you say."

This could also be filed under Bushisms, those stupid sayings of Bush:

'I regret saying some things I shouldn't have said'

but I am going to file this under WTF:
My wife reminded me that, hey, as president of the United States, be careful what you say.
If you're so damn stupid you don't know you should be careful what you say as President until your wife tells you, then you're too stupid to BE President.

Most people pretty much regret that right away.

More likely he's thinking right about now...I regret letting my advisors advise me. And that VP choice, whew man, even Palin would have been better.

I ponder to think, a man like Bush under no circumstances by no could still be disillusioned as to what became of his presidency and how the public views him.

I wonder what he feels inside...

After returning to P&N after watching the Lee Attwater story, this GWB vast irony is totally lost on me. And as I watched those earlier GWB clips when GWB was merely the son of GHB, I have to be struck by how much dislexia GWB managed to learn between 1988 and 2000.

As an American, I pray that there will never be a democratic or republican replay of GWB or Lee Attwater, but my gut tells me there are many more yet to come.

The telling line in the PBS special of Lee Attwater, was a man dying a brain cancer, knowing full well he had made a deal with the devil, with the devil about to collect the forfeit, a repentant Attwater begs a friend for a bible, and after the death of Attwater, said bible was never even taken out of the cellophane wrappings.

Sadly with GWB, I have to believe, even if he had full knowledge of what a disaster he would become, he would still do the same thing he did before, because power only exists to be used, the end results are irrelevant, a egomaniacs last will and testimony, unrepentant to the end.

But I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I'm going to say this again: I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time; never. These allegations are false, and I need to go back to work for the American people. Thank you.

You mean like Joe Biden, Mr. plagiarism and Mr. articulate and clean?

You mean like Jimmy Carter comparing Israel's policy to apartheid? Or talking about 'ethnic purity' in neighborhoods?

Deceptive, but true.

Show me a president that never said anything stupid...

go ahead....try...

This post is a non-issue, of course he regrets saying certain things, the man is not an idiot, he is just a bad politician. Kennedy or Churchill could have taken us to war in Iraq in a way that the country would have loved, Bush's biggest failing was being a shitty politician who did not know how to stir support besides the evangelicals.

I'll agree with your analysis. You'll have trouble getting most of this board to along with that idea, but it's true.

We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10 thousand miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves.

This BS is getting so old. Clinton was the last President, of course people will bring him up when talking about our current President. Now I'd really like an honest answer from you, are you going refrain from mentioning Bush ever again after the day that Obama is sworn in? In threads where Bush is brought up (which is inevitable), are you going to jump in and chastise people for a "But Bush" duhversion?

Edit - well, looks like you answered my questions in another thread with one of your very own "But Bush" diversions.
