Bush gives away land for free

This outraged me. Driving to work this morning I heard the usual political Howard Stern rant about Bush. In all honesty, for me at least, that guy has no credibility, his adminsitration is surrounded by sketchy deals involving war and reconstruction, lies and what not. Well, back on topic, Stern mentioned this:

Sale of mining patent roils Crested Butte residents

Please, read and create an opinion on what good is it to uphold a law (from 1872) which grants primo, mineral and resource land, for $5 bucks an acre, where as one-tenth of that same acre goes for $100,000. Thats one million dollars an acre. Truth is, they can sell this, exploit it, do as they please, all for their profit. Only catch is, and I am positive is this, is their loyalty and monetary support to Bush. Hell, I wish I could buy ANY land for $10,000 (not that I can't).

What kind of crooked government is this? I'm sure there have been others before, but these guys win the loser cup by a mile. What happen to good presidents, that cared more about the ACTUAL citizens rather than their economy graphs and tax cuts for those who dont need it?

He complained that the BLM, an agency that just last month vowed greater involvement and communication with local governments over public-land decisions, hadn't bothered to notify any of the organizations that filed appeals.

Nothing new re:this administration.

Now why don't you stop diverting and actually pony up some opinions on the OP's story? Hmm....

I don't think this really has much to do with the current administration. That law needs to be changed to avoid ridiculous situations such as this.

You answered your own question. When they can't defend King George -- i.e., all the time -- they attack and divert and distract. It's all they have. They rarely address issues because they know they don't have a leg to stand on. It's really pretty pathetic.

Like conjur said is NOT about Stern, but about the article and the actions that I am sure lead to those decisions.
I just listen to Stern for the lesbian talks.

And although I dont have to excuse myself to anybody who does not want to listen, I will rephrase those two first sentences that offend CkG:

While driving to work this morning, A person said something about Bush giving away land for basically free, In order to receive party favors.

Is NOT about Stern, is about an action by the President. But is okay, I'm sure there were ignorants who loved other dictators from 60 years ago.

I read the article 3 times . I still can't find the part where Dubya signed The federal Mining Act of 1872 into law. I can't seem to find a reference to how exactly it was Bush that gave the land away either. Seesm like huge case of NIMBY.

As for stern. After 9/11 he was all gung ho, he wanted to nuke the whole middle east. As soon as the FCC came down on him he became anti bush. Hardly an objective source for anything but degradation of the developmentally disabled and lap dances at scores.

Yes a Bush appointee allowed the sale.

However, it was Congress that set up the law.
The administration is following the law. The law can be challenged in the courts is needed and/or changed by Congress.

The company is taking advantage of the "loophole" of the law and the loophole should be closed.
Complain to your local representatives.

The point of the Denver Post article is that the appointees in the BLM didn't have to grant the sale, not at all, and that they did so in a rather underhanded way...

Moly mining in that property is a farce, at least at the present time. As was pointed out, The Henderson mine satisfies all the current demand, and the Climax mine can be reopened at any time- it's an open pit operation, and the equipment has been maintained to avoid having to reclaim the land used as settling ponds... Everytime anybody squawks about the promised reclamation, they hire a few guys, do a minor production run, then shut down- Lake county is just grateful for the jobs, any jobs... Why clean up your mess when it's cheaper to just move on, play some games?

But I'll bet it puts a nice jingle in Dubya's campaign chest, and will help ease the transition back to private industry for the involved bigwigs...

Vote Republican, get used to it. With their policy of looting and breaking the govt under a mountain of debt, they'll be selling off Yellowstone, just to pay the interest on the debt...
