Why would anyone need an assault weapon? Those guns are made for killing people, not hunting.
Dont worry about a time when the goverment gets to overbearing and you need protection from the goverment itself? I know lots of liberals have been complaining about Ashcroft.
Are you going to take on the government with your machine gun? Get real. That argument is irrelevant.
I'll take your first statement first. Guess which cartridge is used in the highest percentage of gun homocides in america. Its not the 45, its not the 9mm, 38 Special, 357 Mag, oh no, its the 22LR. Oh no, lets ban those too!
Lets look at the general qualifications for an assault rifle, since your second post shows you have no idea. As defined by most legislation, an assault rifle is:
-black (wood stock with same capability is exempt from the bans in many cases)
-often defined as having a bayonet lug. When is the last time you heard of an inner-city bayoneting? Never? Yeah, me too
-Large magazine capacity. Oh no, my uncle has a 25 round magazine for his Ruger 22, I guess he is going to use it for a killing spree any day now, couldnt be that he uses it for target practice. He also has an AR-15 with a total of 14 30 round magazines. You'd think that since it has no other use than killing people and is not for hunting, he'd have killed a lot of people with it by now. He hasnt shot anyone with it yet. There are three deer (two of which he has mounted) that my uncle has killed in the 4 years. You should tell them no one hunts with an AR-15. They'd disagree with you, seeing as he used his AR-15 to kill them.
As to why I would need an assault rifle, it doesnt matter. I might use it for hunting, self defense, or to dance naked in front of. I'm not going around trying to restrict your 1st amendment right. I'm not advocating the restriction of your right to free speech. Please do not try to take away my constitutional rights.
As for your second statement, america was founded by a bunch of guys who took their rifles out to war. Sure, they were muskets and muzzle-loading rifles, but thats about all the British had, too. I'm not one of those people running around in Montana with my own personal vendetta against the federal government, but if the time came and the US had another revolution, I have no doubt an armed citizenry would win in the end.
