The most serious issue is that, for the first time in its history, the U.S. has adopted pre-emptive war as national policy. This may yet prove to be the worst political turn of the century. The entire premise for the war was imminent danger from Iraq. Not only has this now been proved false, the idea that such a radical action was predicated on falsehoods, exaggerated threats, and lies of omission increases the folly by an order of magnitude. If I killed my neighbor and claimed self-defense; used a Bush-type defense in court; I would expect to be found guilty of murder.

Running off to Africa, spending a few hours here and there, decrying slavery a few centuries after the fact, making a token gesture 20 years too late in the fight against AIDS - all because it's better to have Bush out of the country while the heat is on about Iraq.
