The latest White House excuse is that most of the top level officials and aides were still on vacation (Cheney in Wyoming doing whatever, Condi in Manhattan catching musicals and buying shoes, some aide off to Greece to get married, etc.)

Excepting the wedding, nice to know where our admin's priorities lie.
So what are Cheney's and Rice's responsibility in a natural disaster response, conjur. Why don't you tell us?
They're union. Not their job. They belong to what goverment employees refer to as the KMA club. Kiss my ass.
It's that whole "disconnection from reality" thing.

"Oh, the worst natural disaster in history just occurred? Damn...too bad.

Now, do you have this in a size 7 1/2?"

Exactly.

"People are dying? People die everyday, what do you want me to do about it? I only work here."

or my favorite

"You have obviously mistook me for somebody who gives a sh-t."

"For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always."

i want to throw up now ....

you're just as much a ditto head as the Rush listeners. you're probably worse since you deny it

So you agree with what he said but not with who else said it.. maybe you're just pissed off that you and Al Franken agree.

No they don't oversee the States, and they are there as Liaison and as Federal Reps. to ensure compliance with Federal Regulations.

Ummm, that sounds like they oversee them. You contradict yourself.

Oversee to ensure compliance with federal regs and rules. They have NOTHING to do with State regs and rules.

From a political sense, the next few months will be gold for the left. Can't wait to see what the newest opinion polls show about Bush.

It was FIVE DAYS AFTER the storm before troops arrived. Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin did EVERYTHING in their power but the fact is the response was delayed because their National Guard units have been DECIMATED by the churlish Bush's unnecessary and counter-productive invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Bullsh!t. Mayor Nagin ought to be getting a big, long finger pointed at him when this is all over. How can he explain the city's failure to update their Hurricane plans in over 5 years and the fact that he had 500+ buses available to get people out of NO which are now sitting in several feet of water.

Quit your pathetic Bush-bashing and open your fuggin' eyes.

I'd like to see you spout that nonsense to Nagin's face. I'd bet you'd get an education real fast.

There is plenty of blame to go around, from FEMA right on down to Mayor Nagin. But now isn't the time for that...

Tell me where the nonsense is?

He had 200+ school buses fueled up and ready. Available.
He had 350+ metropolitan transit buses fueled up and ready. Available.

Why didn't he use them?

Magic Bus...woo hoo!

Prove those buses were in Orleans Parish.

Prove those buses weren't flooded before the levee breached.

Also, count those buses. That's not 500.

So then. you've personally inventoried and certified that there are in fact these buses, and that they are there, fueled and ready to go . . .

or are you repeting sone rumor, or inuendo that you heard or read in someone's blog or from somone you don't even know . . as seen on TV !?

I can show you show you jpeg's of wrecking lots full of scrap cars, why didn't they just drive those too.

Where do you think they were? My, are you really that nieve?

I don't care if the bus yard was flooded immediately after the hurricane hit (before the levee breaches). Had Nagin done his job and got the buses moving 24 HOURS EARLIER as he could have (or more) that point would be irrelevant.

Also, count those buses. That's not 500.

No sh!t Sherlock. It is roughly 200. My figure includes the other 300+ public transportation buses which could have been used as well.

Or do you want to sit here and argue numbers? Frankly, it makes no difference. If there were 50, 500, or 5000 buses. He should have used 'em!

Maybe St. Bernard Parish. Maybe Jefferson Parish. Maybe Placquemines.

PROVE THOSE BUSES WERE IN ORLEANS PARISH AND WERE FUELED UP AND WEREN'T FLOODED BEFORE THE LEVEE BREACH.

Yeah, you fueled them and checked the tires, right? OK, now let's get the police and some guns and force people into the buses, because many of them didn't (and still don't) want to leave.

OK, now you got 55,000 people. Where we heading? It has to be someplace safe from the hurricane. Any suggestions??

I have to say this. And finally, the press is waking up to the bs Bush admin. They are giving Bush hell. FEMA did not respond as they should, why? Because (if you listened to Al Franken show, you would have known this long ago) Bush appointed a "buddy" to head FEMA (Director Michael Brown). This guy had zilch, nada, ZERO qualifications to head FEMA. He was Bush's buddy, and THATS how and the only way he got the job. So now, real disaster happens, and the head of FEMA is clueless, with his head up his ass. And so the nightmare begins.

I want to see Bush supporters defend their guy. Just try!

PS. btw, now IS the time to turn up the heat. Not later, but NOW!

As much as this sucks, even if A Democrat was in office, it still would have been a politcal favor.

All standard procedure for the drivers BEFORE starting out.

I don't think Police and Guns would have been necessary if the job would have been done EARLY. Once the panic sets in...

North sounds like a good plan, don't it?

Now Bush is showing us his special way with people, designed to win them over. :disgust:
Blanco was not informed of the timing of Bush's visit, nor was she immediately invited to meet him or travel with him. Blanco's office didn't know Bush was coming until told by reporters. Bush spokesman Scott McClellan said the White House reached out to Blanco's office Sunday, but didn't hear back, and White House staff in Louisiana spoke with Blanco early Monday.

What a jackass Bush is.

Don't worry guys, no need to shout at each other.

Once they start pulling thousands of bloated bodies from the water, Bush and his cronies will be crucified by the media. I'm not saying that they deserve 100% of the blame, but I GUARANTEE you that they will feel a majority of the heat from the media and from people in the region.

I'm looking forward to it.

As long as it's safe from Katrina. Got your checkbook? 55,000 motel rooms are going to add up, not to mention meals etc. How long we staying?
