We normally disagree on military matters, but I think that you have begun to understand them.

The most powerful military in the world also must hold itself to the highest standards of decency. Carpet bombing and nuclear strikes would certainly end this Iraq issue, but at what moral cost? Lose your soul to earn a military victory? Not worth it.

Without participation from the Iraqis, the whole mess is a pain in the butt. Unfortunately, it's one that either needs a convenient exit, or stay the course. There can be no other way. The americans don't have the stomach or lack or caring for stragegic solutions for this engagement...maybe for the Afghanis in 2001, but NOT in Iraq.

the only way it will improve so we can get out is if the Iraq's grab a hold and take care of this themselves AND the other countries/groups close by atleast stay out of it or help out in a postive way.........this will not happen it appears. the middle east system/culture doesn't care enough to do it

the other option is to just leave completely very fast or over time, and when I mean time I say 6 months to a year max

or we could just stay there for 10 more years or longer and give up and leave and the results will be the same as if we just gave completely next week

part of the problem with the american people is they just don't understand middle east culture and way of life, that's how they were so easily fooled into this war. plenty of the american people still don't get it.......................

and what's congress excuse for voting for it,? there is none, they should have known better, or are they weak, or corrupt

any congress member that voted for the war should not get elected as pres, real they should be removed from office

If we restart a draft then I say lets send in the baby boomers first. Let's see the chicken hawks go fight their 'patriotic' war in Iraq. Quite frankly, few people oppose fighting the battle ground against Al Queda in Afghanistan. Not many people support this war in Iraq now that the general population is aware that Iraq was not tied to 9/11.

Sorry but age aside, they already did their duty in Vietnam, now it's someone else's turn to get to be heros.

I dont think the draft can work. Before we start a draft there has to be someone to train these people, some place to train these people at, support for these people to be drafted, Tons of equipment would be needed. It would be possible, but it would take a lot of infrastructure to be built first. We have spent the last 20 years slimming down the military, closing bases, and starting National guard units. This whole model is flawed, and the Pentagon knows it.

I wonder however, if the military or the army or whatever announced opening a base next week and then increased enrollment quotas if the military could find enough people. It might be they could fill the quotas. Maybe they could start a Mexican American Division. Sign up in Mexico and get automatic citizenship.

Whatever.

I just think the draft would be a big hassle. We dont have enough military units to put the people into.
