Uh, almost the entire article is quotes from other sources, there's pretty much no new CNN material in there.

Because the study CNN is reporting on is by an orgnization called The Economic Policy Institute. This organization is KNOWN to be quite left of center. That CNN choose to report their findings with no rebuttal is called "bias."

I see no bias.
Headline is fact, and facts (alone) carry no bias.
Bold subtitle is fact, and facts carry no bias.
1st paragraph is only facts, and facts carry no bias.
2nd and 3rd paragraphs carry information stated by the EPI. Lets pretend the EPI is biased to one side (call it side A for this discussion). Thus 2 paragraphs for bias A.
4th paragraph is just facts.
5th and 6th paragraphs are mostly facts, but lets assign them bias A. That is 4 paragraphs for side A.
Next 3 paragraphs are all from another source (Labor Department and supporters). These 3 are disagreeing with the EPI. Thus these 3 paragraphs are biased towards side B.
The final 2 paragraphs are from EPI but actually go against their case. Thus the last two paragraphs are for side B.
Final Score: Side B has 5, side A has 4. That is just about as even as you can get. In some articles I might weight one paragraph more than others, but I see no reason to in this situation. 5 rightist paragraphs and 4 leftist paragraphs. Not biased in my opinion.
The last 5 paragraphs are all the rebuttal. Heck look at the last sentence "we have been unable to determine the impact of many of the changes with any precision". That is just about the best possible rebuttal.Originally posted by: Amused
That doesn't change the fact that the story is biased because it doesn't offer a rebuttal. It offers only one view from a left leaning "think tank."

No rebuttal???
The Labor Department and supporters of the changes contend the revised regulations will update old rules, cover more workers and reduce the amount of class-action lawsuits.
"These latest 'studies' are a rehash of misinformation the AFL-CIO and its allies put out about the department's final Overtime Security Rule in April -- assertions that were completely discredited in congressional hearings," Labor Department spokesman Ed Frank said in a statement.
"This is a last-ditch effort to restart the misinformation campaign that has failed to cover up the fact that millions of workers will benefit from the Department's strong new overtime guarantees."

Position doesn't matter much as long as they get equal weight. All headlines are sensationalist - so that isn't a form of bias. Headline includes "MAY", anything with "may" in it means it is biased. So I'll give you that.Originally posted by: Amused
OK, but the rebuttal is weak, and near the bottom of the article. Not to mention the headline is sensationalist and quite left leaning.

Also include the EPI's admission that the changes will benefit many people and that the EPI isn't even clear if their numbers are correct. Those are the last 2 paragraphs.Originally posted by: Amused
Please learn how to count. I see only three small paragraphs with a rebuttal.
