Bush Admin cuts Women's Funding - Women's Rights Marchers Gather in D.C.

4-25-2004 Women's Rights Marchers Gather in D.C

In the park across from the White House on Saturday, dozens carrying flags of different countries gathered to hear speeches about the state of women's reproductive health worldwide, including how the so-called "global gag-rule" has hurt family planning services.

Under the rule, which President Bush reinstated when he took office, non-governmental organizations overseas that promote or perform abortions are ineligible for U.S funds.

The daylong event kicks off with a breakfast featuring Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.

Good for Bush. Abortion is selfish to say the least and I don't want to fund it. And if dems would drop thier outragous support for murder and wacko enviromental polices they might win an election again.

What are they carrying flags from different countries around for?

And do you intend to fund the kids that will result for the next 18 or so years?

Sure, instead of funding the alleged "murder" let's de-fund or outright outlaw abortion so we can fill the world with untold unwanted children who can grow up to become criminals. Then you can fund the millions of dollars it takes to imprison each one of them. I'm sure that's much more palatable . . .

Only reason I need to vote for bush again.

You can use the same logic to say we shouldn't send food to starving children.

Fewer children = bad for the world.

You could put the worlds population in Texas and have a lower population density than NY city.

I support a woman's right to have an abortion if she chooses, but I see no reason why the US government should pay for it, especially for women aren't even US citizens and don't even live in the US. That's just idiotic.

Hey, I don't want to fund the billions of dollars it takes our states and our federal government to imprison morons who grew up to shoot liquor store clerks because their parents never wanted them and didn't care about them. I also don't want young mothers who are faced with that choice dying in back alleys because you decided abortion should be outlawed.

the US gov't doesn't even have to pay for abortions here, why should it have to pay for abortions elsewhere?

Heh... email joke I got last week:

A woman walks into the downtown welfare office, trailed by 15 kids.
"WOW," the social worker exclaims, "Are they ALL YOURS?"
"Yes' am they is all mine," the flustered momma sighs, having heard that question a thousand times before.
She says, "Sit down, Leroy." All the children rush to find seats.
"Well," says the social worker, "then you must be here to sign up. I'll need all your children's names."
"This one's my oldest--he is Leroy."
"OK, and who's next?"
"Well, this one he is Leroy, also."
The social worker raises an eyebrow but continues.
One by one, through the oldest four, all boys, all named Leroy. Then she is introduced to the eldest girl, named Leigh Roy!
"All right," says the caseworker, "I'm seeing a pattern here. Are they ALL named Leroy?"
Their Momma replied, "Well, yes! It make it easier. When it is time to get them out of bed and ready for school, I yells, 'Leroy!' An' when it's time for dinner, I just yell 'Leroy!' an' they all comes a runnin.' An if I need to stop the kid who's running into the street, I just yell 'Leroy' and all of them stop. It's the smartest idea I ever had, namin' them all Leroy."
The social worker thinks this over for a bit, then wrinkles her forehead and says tentatively, "But what if you just want ONE kid to come, and not the whole bunch?"

"Ah, that's so easy," said the momma. "Then I jest calls 'em by their last names."

ISN'T WELFARE JUST THE GREATEST THING???????????

Honestly, I don't see why we should choose to support abortion other than to rape victims.(I believe they should be allowed the option of taking the morning after pill) However, for consentual sex that either has the birth control fail or just not used, deal with it. Seriously, when you're willing to have sex, deal with what may happen. Once it is a growing fetus, it is murder.

Tabitha Warnica, 36, of Phoenix, said she had two abortions when she was young. "We don't have a choice. God is the only one who can decide," she said.

Seriously, get your tubes tied, only have sex with men who have had vasectomies or learn how to use other forms of birth control. People like her aggravate me.

How can you say it is right for people who have been raped to get an abortion but it wrong for people invloved in consentual sex. When did we start holding people reasponisble for the sins of one's father.

I know, it does seem contradictory to say it is ok for rape victims but not for others and, in all fairness, your assertion is correct. That is the only exception that I somewhat agree with, otherwise I do not care for it in any way. However, I only support it through the use of the morning after pill.

Hmm, if you guys are so worried about over-population then maybe you should campaighn against immigration since as it is now, all of our population growth is from immigration while our natural growth is stagnant/declining.

how will stopping immigration help GLOBAL over-population?????

Did Hughes just say if you're pro-choice you're a terrorist?

link

"I think that after September 11, the American people are valuing life more and we need policies to value the dignity and worth of every life," she said. "President Bush has worked to say, let's be reasonable, let's work to value life, let's reduce the number of abortions, let's increase adoptions. And I think those are the kinds of policies the American people can support, particularly at a time when we're facing an enemy and, really, the fundamental issue between us and the terror network we fight is that we value every life."

So now you are implying that if we don't actively support abortion around the world that we are then responsible for the needs of all the children who would have otherwise been murdered in their mothers womb? Sorry buddy but your simplistic socialist view of the world is ignorant. Refusing to allow my tax dollars to fund what I condider to be murder of an unborn human being (abortion) does not in anyway make me resonsible for the future support of that child. If you belive it does than you are a fool.

Well you seem to care about the welfare of the child before it is birthed I just assumed you where not going to let the child starve to death in the middle of street.

It wont help global over-population, it would stop american over population though since native born americans are not having enough children to increase the population. Besides abortion should be a issue for thr countries with high birth rates since thier the ones creating the over population.
imo abortion is detrimental to america since we dont need less children in this country, we need more to keep the population from declining, so the over populaton card doesnt apply here.

Wow, pretty big rally. :Q

CNN: The rally on the National Mall stretched from the base of the U.S. Capitol about a mile back to the Washington Monument. Authorities no longer give formal crowd estimates, but various police sources informally estimated the throng at between 500,000 and 800,000 strong.
Impressive. Oh, and did you notice this?

Police arrested 16 people from the Christian Defense Coalition for demonstrating without a permit and another anti-abortion protester for throwing ink-filled plastic eggs at rally signs.
