Bus Powered 2.5" External Enclosure?

Does anybody know of a good 2.5" IDE external enclosure that will run reliably off the USB bus without another power cable?

It should look good too. 🙂

TIA

Close call. USB per-port power limit = 500 mA. Usual 2.5" drive power consumption = 500 to 550 mA. The USB-IDE controller bit doesn't operate out of thin air either.

These things do exist, but you need to use a slow and small HDD _and_ be lucky.

I kind of figured that, but thanks for the info. I found one at NewEgg that uses a PS2 connector for the power. That could be interesting.

If you really want bus-powered, go with a Firewire enclosure if you can afford it(and have the port). FW has more power(I don't have the number in front of me, unfortunately), so you can get all sorts of bus-powered enclosures using it.
