bus drivers should carry guns

if the public knows that the bus driver HAS a gun, this will not happen. post a sign: Bus Driver Has A Gun

Agreed.

That's part of what makes kids nowadays so bold... There are little or no repercussions for shit like this.

Hell, you have a little thug brutally attack an innocent man and with the right media smear campaign half the nation supports the criminal. Disgusting.

Sorry SE, gonna have to disagree with you on this one.

What is an old man going to do with a gun when he gets sucker punched like that?

Or, if the thugs knew he had a gun, they'd sucker punch him, beat him some more, force him to give up the gun, then either shoot him or steal his gun.

SE 4 Prez still though.

old people with guns are crazy. no one messes with them.

I have done legal work for our local transit authority for more than seven years.

Trust me, you do not want bus drivers carrying guns. This is firmly in the more-harm-than-good category and would have an adverse effect on public safety.

The comments on that video just remind me that people who comment on YouTube videos are the worst humans alive. One of the "Top Comments" is "Fuck political correctness. Hang that nigg*r," spelled out in full.

So... you take one youtubers behaviour and spread your judgement across all youtubers. Again, more irony.

It's interesting to me that the people who scream racist the loudest tend to be just as bad as the people they're crying about.

Yeah they were saying this about that town in georgia.. Kennesaw.. where every homeowner is required by law to own a gun.. The people against it were very upset, saying that now these people will be the target of home invasions and worse, because the criminals know they'll have guns to steal.

I'm fairly sure kennesaw still has the very lowest crime rate of any city in the entire country.

Why? If trained and hired properly it would be no different than the marshalls on planes.

I only wish I could remember the code for the rolling eyes emoticon, because it is richly deserved here.

Obviously I was being somewhat sarcastic in sayin that all Youtube commenters are bad, but sincere in pointing out that Youtube comments seem to be among the most obnoxious I have seen anywhere on the Internet. If you're serious that what I said is as bad as the post I quoted (or that there is any question that the post I quoted is racist), you're an idiot.

Air marshalls are trained law enforcement officers. Bus drivers are bus drivers.

Bus drivers are all over the map in terms of their intelligence and temperament, and I have seen many of them engage lapses of judgment and outright acts of stupidity that would shock you. Moreover, a large percentage of them are overweight and/or elderly and/or heavy smokers, and are simply not law enforcement material. Putting a weapon in their hands would simply endanger the public (and expose taxpayers to enormous liability, as many/most transit authorities are self-insured) to no legitimate end. Obviously it's shitty when one of them gets sucker-punched like this, but I don't believe that alone means that it makes one scintilla of sense to put guns in their hands.

I would like to introduce you guys to the multiquote button. It's right next to the regular quote botton and lets you bitch about any number of posts in one coherent message.

What do you not understand about "trained and hired properly"?

I'm not saying it makes sense to do this, from either a financial or social perspective. I'm saying that IF it were handled that way you definitely wouldn't have little thugs doing their typical assault a bus driver routine.

Then why are you trying to start an argument with me? It sounds like you agree that this is a bad idea. This is an inane discussion if you and I are in agreement.

Even if it were feasible and cost-effective to hold new-hire bus drivers to the same fitness and mental-health standards as police (which it isn't), you would still have the issue of the existing drivers, all of whom are union employees, and most of whom are not up to the standard of law enforcement officers. In reality while assaults like this happen from time to time (just as they happen to innocent lay-victims of all kinds), it is highly unusual for a bus driver to be killed or seriously injured on the job. Ultimately the gun suggestion is an impractical, emotional reaction to something that really isn't a major problem.

No...

The argument is about people saying it makes no sense for bus drivers to carry guns as criminals will just disarm them.

History has shown this mentality is completely wrong. Criminals avoid dealing with anyone who may be armed.

I opened the video and saw this:

"im black and i hope to god the police find this kid, shoot him in the back of the head when he least suspects it like the way he sucker punched an old man...the cops will be doing society a favor. im sick of this fuckin garbage. every ghetto thug in america should be put in a gas chamber so the rest of us decent blacks have to stop being represented by these animals."

I have to say, I very much agree with that posters' comment.

You're choosing to argue with me based on a point someone else made (the issue of drivers being disarmed by criminals), which I did not echo and which has nothing to do with anything I wrote. You appear to agree with what I wrote. Why are you trying to argue with me again?
